A Tripod Without Legs. A tripod is the go to device for photographers who want to stabilize their shots. The three adjustable legs do a great job at keeping a camera supported and in one position. However, these three legs create a huge problem when shooting in a small kitchen or busy restaurant.

Let me share with you a piece of equipment that will stabilize your camera with no legs at all! The Manfrotto 131TC Tablemount Geared Column with Clamp is something that I bring with me when I know I’m shooting in a small kitchen or a busy dining room. Like a tripod, the camera connects to an adjustable center column through a ball or panning head. The geared column raises and lowers using a smooth geared crank. Clamping to a table is impractical for portrait, sports, or landscape photography, but for food photography this is an amazing tool!

Above shows the difference between a tripod and the 131TC adjusted at the same height. What I like: What could use improvement: Photogr.lens spec., guides, discussion and reviews- Photodo.

A Post By: Darren Rowse Here’s a little exercise for you to do today. It will only take 15 minutes. It’s all about slowing down and thinking about the shots that you’re taking. Grab your camera – what ever one you have handy (I used my iPhone last time I did this) and head out into your backyard (or if you’re in the middle of winter you can choose an indoor location – perhaps your living room – really anywhere will do).

Now find somewhere to sit – somewhere in the middle of whatever place you’ve selected. Now for the next 10 minutes just sit there. Observe Soak in your location.Look at the light and how it hits your surroundings.Pay attention to what your setting makes you feel.Look at the details that perhaps you’d not have noticed if you’d rushed through the setting. During this ‘observation’ phase you may like to move around your environment to look at it from different angles – but don’t use your camera yet. Plan What will you shoot? Shoot For Example.
