Every Man Should Have a Personal Code of Conduct: Here are 2 Great Examples

Not long ago, a post on Reddit struck a nerve. It was a post about the Code of the United States Fighting Force, and personal interpretations from a few Redditors. Definitely give the real Code a read, I’m sure you’re familiar with it. It’s the reason captured soldiers in movies only answer questions with their name, rank, and birthday. 38 Vintage Conversation Rules.

38 Vintage Conversation Rules

Hartley. Hartley’s rules may be over 100 years old, but they’re just as true today as they ever were. There are some real gems here — some of which truly gave me a chuckle. 1. Even if convinced that your opponent is utterly wrong, yield gracefully, decline further discussion, or dexterously turn the conversation, but do not obstinately defend your own opinion until you become angry…Many there are who, giving their opinion, not as an opinion but as a law, will defend their position by such phrases, as: “Well, if I were president, or governor, I would,” — and while by the warmth of their argument they prove that they are utterly unable to govern their own temper, they will endeavor to persuade you that they are perfectly competent to take charge of the government of the nation. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8.

Instead, dating is being replaced by “hanging out” with members of the opposite sex. Dating and hanging out are two completely different things. Hanging out consists of people getting together in groups and doing stuff together. It could be going to a club, a restaurant, or just staying home and playing Wii. 6 Reasons You Should Own a Survival Bow & Arrow

I am a big fan of the bow and arrow for a variety of reasons, and I personally think that anyone who has an interest in primitive survival skills or modern urban survival should seriously consider purchasing a good bow and arrow and become proficient in using it. There are hundreds of bows to choose from, but my particular bow of choice is an October Mountain Blue Ridge Hunter Take Down Recurve Bow.

Below are six reasons why you should consider owning a similar survival take-down bow. 1. Portability “Take-down” simply means that the bow comes apart in three pieces: the middle grip section and the two limbs. 2. A good take-down bow should only cost you a couple hundred bucks and if you take care of it, you can expect it to last your lifetime. 3. Modern arrow points vs flint arrowheads. It originally appeared on his website, Touch.artofmanliness. As Jeremy detailed on Monday, many colleges are turning out graduates who, even after four years of higher education, have cognitive skills that are still sorely lacking.

Of particular note is a seeming decline in grads’ writing abilities; one-third of students see no improvement in their writing skills from freshman to senior year, and 80% of employers wish colleges would put more emphasis on this area. Even if you have no plans on becoming a professional writer, being able to write well is one of the most important skills you can have. From typing up memos at a corporation, to penning blog posts that accompany your online store, to writing grant proposals for your non-profit — it is a skill that will truly come in handy no matter what line of work you end up going into. Beyond just having professional benefits, learning to write better will up your game in your love notes and enhance your correspondence with others – whether through email or handwritten letters.

All martial arts have an appeal to most men and their fighting spirit, but Krav Maga’s draw owes less to the mystique of many of the traditional disciplines and more to a distinct aura of bad-assitude. Beyond “Sissy” Resilience: On Becoming Antifragile

If you ask most people this question, they’ll likely say “robust” or “resilient.” But philosopher Nassim Nicholas Taleb would say that’s not the right answer. He argues that if fragile items break when exposed to stress, something that’s the opposite of fragile wouldn’t simply not break (thus staying the same) when put under pressure; rather, it should actually get stronger. We don’t really have a word to describe such a person or organization, so Taleb created one: antifragile. In his book, Antifragile: Things That Gain from Disorder, Taleb convincingly argues that this powerful quality is essential for businesses, governments, and even individuals that wish to thrive in an increasingly complex and volatile world.

Zorba the Greek Dance and How it Relates to Manliness

I think it’s a trait we can all use more of and our culture finds in short supply. Acting like gentlemen builds our self-respect, makes our interactions with others more pleasant, and brings civility back to society. But I don’t think we should pursue manners and self-discipline to the detriment of our Wild Man. The idea of the Wild Man was popularized in recent times by Robert Bly’s book about men entitled Iron John. In the book, Bly analyzes the Grimm fairy tale of Iron John and how it relates to a man’s mental and emotional development. But according to Bly, the Wild Man isn’t some macho dude or savage man who takes pleasure in violence. In Iron John, the Wild Man takes a young boy out into the woods away from his parents and in the process teaches the boy about being a man.
