How to Build Self-Discipline. Discipline is freedom.

How to Build Self-Discipline

You may disagree with this statement, and if you do you are certainly not alone. For many people discipline is a dirty word that is equated with the absence of freedom. In fact the opposite is true. As Stephen R. Covey once wrote, “the undisciplined are slaves to moods, appetites and passions”. Self-discipline involves acting according to what you think instead of how you feel in the moment. Work on an idea or project after the initial rush of enthusiasm has faded awayGo to the gym when all you want to do is lie on the couch and watch TVWake early to work on yourselfSay “no” when tempted to break your dietOnly check your email a few of times per day at particular times In the past self-discipline has been a weakness of mine, and as a result today I find myself lacking the ability to do a number of things which I would like – e.g. to play the guitar.

If you struggle with self-discipline, the good news is that it can be developed. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Motivator: Create your own motivational posters! First time here?

DIY: Pretty Fabric Scrap Gift Tags

I thought I’d share a little tutorial with you for these simple and sweet Fabric Scrap Gift Tags. They are such a great way to give new life to any fabric bits and pieces you have laying around that you just can’t throw away. I started making these a while ago as a way to display fabric clippings on my inspiration wire and they always make me smile. It would be easy to whip up a batch to keep on hand for gift wrapping…or perhaps you might assemble a special box filled with the tags you create and give them to someone who loves beautiful packaging supplies. Supplies needed: Fabric scraps in various sizes and patterns (light-weight woven fabrics work best). Step 1: Cut out fabric slightly smaller than the size of your tags. Step 2: Using your glue stick apply glue to the surface of your tag.

Pencil Eraser Stamp Tutorial + Printable Manila Tag Freebie. Several months ago I got bit by the stamp carving bug (so much fun), but until yesterday I hadn’t had a chance to unpack my supplies following my move.

Pencil Eraser Stamp Tutorial + Printable Manila Tag Freebie

While blogging yesterday I had a random recollection of reading that you can use pencil erasers as mini stamps, so I thought I’d give it a go and share the results with you. I’m happy to say that the project turned out well and was super easy. For my first version I used some manila tags I had sitting around, but since I know that not everyone might have those, I created a free Printable “Manila” Tag download for you all to use with the stamp tutorial below. Supplies Needed: Printable Manila Tag DownloadStandard pencils with unused erasersCraft knifeStamp ink or acrylic paint (for this tutorial I use stamp ink)Fine-tip permanent pen (optional)Other paper goods such as gift wrap, paper bags, note card, envelopes, etc. Step 4: Begin stamping.

December Daily 2010

How’s it going? Still hanging in there? I felt a bit of creative fatigue myself today and then got over it once I started playing with these little photos. Photos today (except the enlargement) are from my Fujifilm INSTAX MINI 7S Camera . For this first page I just adhere three of them along the bottom – with the middle photo overlapping the other two. The middle transparent page is a 8.5×11 page-protector that’s been cut down to four pockets (and new holes punched). Behind the photo of Anna I slipped in a little lego building paper that had come in Simon’s advent box today. Page two includes six mini photos, typed labels, and a bit of very cool vintage wallpaper from Papier Valise (click on Paper and then look for Vintage Wall Paper: Holiday Colors Pack). My typewriter got a workout making the little labels. Best of the Web: Our Favorite Blogs and Web Sites.
