Kurion Continues Fukushima Cleanup, Moves to Test Vitrification of Nuclear Waste
Kurion Acquires GeoMelt® to Expand Vitrification Solutions
Impact Services Inc., the bankrupt nuclear waste processor storing 1 million pounds of scrap radioactive material at its Oak Ridge, Tennessee, facility, sold a unit that stabilizes nuclear debris and soils to Kurion Inc. Kurion, based in Irvine , California , said in a statement today that it bought the GeoMelt business May 16, a week before Impact’s Chapter 7 filing for liquidation in U.S.
Impact Services Sold Unit to Kurion Before Bankruptcy
Kurion, a company developing and marketing technologies to stabilize nuclear and hazardous waste, is consolidating its vitrification work in Richland. It has begun retrofitting a 13,000-square-foot facility at 2579 Stevens Drive to develop its modular vitrification system and has moved millions of dollars worth of equipment for the plant from Rolla, Mo., as it consolidates operations, said John Raymont, Kurion founder and chief executive officer.
