What are housing choice vouchers? The housing choice voucher program is the federal government's major program for assisting very low-income families, the elderly, and the disabled to afford decent, safe, and sanitary housing in the private market. Since housing assistance is provided on behalf of the family or individual, participants are able to find their own housing, including single-family homes, townhouses and apartments. The participant is free to choose any housing that meets the requirements of the program and is not limited to units located in subsidized housing projects.

Housing choice vouchers are administered locally by public housing agencies (PHAs). A family that is issued a housing voucher is responsible for finding a suitable housing unit of the family's choice where the owner agrees to rent under the program. A housing subsidy is paid to the landlord directly by the PHA on behalf of the participating family. Am I eligible? How do I apply? Step 1: What Is Supported - Lifeline Program - USAC.org. The Lifeline Program allows eligible consumers to receive a reduced rate on either their cell phone or home phone bill. Lifeline Program support is provided to eligible telecommunications carriers (ETCs) from the federal universal service fund. Lifeline Program Support ETCs may allow eligible consumers to apply for discounts to any service plan, including bundled packages of voice and data services, and plans that include optional calling features such as, but not limited to, caller identification, call waiting, voicemail, and three-way calling.

ETCs may also allow eligible consumers to apply their Lifeline Program discount to family-shared calling plans. If an ETC charges subscribers a fee for toll (long distance) calls that is in addition to the per-month or per-billing cycle of the subscriber's service, the carrier must offer toll limitation service at no charge to its subscribers as part of its service offering.
