It should be no surprise that most people would leave the reading of these documents to the experts, assuming that only the learned could make any sense of them. But that was precisely what the Popes and fathers of the council did not want. A decision was made before the first document was written that the audience of this council, the readership to which the documents were to be addressed, was not just the academics and clergy.
