Brittni’s cork containers. One of my favorite things about running d*s is hearing from readers who’ve made the projects we post, or who have been inspired to create something based on a past project. so i was happy to hear from brittni at papernstitch last week about a great project she did inspired by kate’s cork lamp tutorial from 2008. brittni decided to run with the theme and create some really beautiful cork vases and containers using inexpensive materials like cans and spray paint. i thought the finished result was so great i had to share them here. thanks so much to brittni for sharing her project with us!

Monday Mini Project: No Sew Pillow Cover | Sowelu Studio. I can barely sew a straight line. Oh sure, when I was younger and struggled to make ends meet, I did make myself a few skirts for work.

And, I have to admit, they turned out well enough for me to wear and not be embarrassed. Sewing, however is my least favorite craft. So, discovering this little gem of a tutorial from Organize Your Stuff Now made me giddy! Enjoy! Monique This is the easiest pillow cover ever. I used pinking shears to cut the fabric so it wouldn’t fray. Then fold the top down to the center. Fold both ends like the picture. Bring one side over the top of the pillow. Then the other side. Now tie the ends in a square knot. Ta-Da! I love the knot. And it looks great on the loveseat. It even looks great on the back if I want to switch sides.

I found this genius idea to get my necklaces organized from and I thought I'd give it a go. 1. You will need a flat board to attach your knobs unto. You can be creative with this. For my board I'm using a piece of driftwood that I found at this beach on this trip. I got 4 out of my 5 knobs from our local habitat for humanity store for less than $1.00. 2. 3. 4. And now my necklaces are officially organized! This fun little shabby chic earring stand, made from an altered picture frame, is a great way to hang and display all your beautiful, dangling earrings. I had the idea for this project after we talked about my love affair with dangly earrings and how to display them. I don’t know about you, but I just love seeing them all hanging in a row! :) The next day I made this earring frame, and it was so quick, easy, and inexpensive to put together, I knew I had to share it with you! :) I spent a grand total of $5.34 on this project. Plus I got to work with a staple gun. (Thats about as close to a power tool as I get!) Cost: Less than $10 Time: 30 mins Supplies: picture frame, 12′ of picture wire, acrylic paint & brush, staple gun (or nails/tacks, etc) I started out with a black 8×10 picture frame from Walmart, $3.

Since the frame wasn’t real wood, I was a little concerned with how it would turn out once I painted it. Next, I took a piece of wire and laid it across the back of the frame. The USB spy marker. It’s all squeezed into one post, and stay tuned for some freebies at the end ;} We had a blast this weekend with this little party…thank you all for your sweet comments from Monday. This shindig is manageable without being completely over the top…especially if you do a few things ahead of time. Not (ahem) the day before, like me. This was a low maintenance, fun and easy kinda birthday. No.5 First things first: Here’s how we created our giant number. The key to making this work is using actual watercolor paper. I also picked up a water color set at the craft store, that had plenty of colors beyond just the usual primary variety to work with. I started by sketching out a five on the paper, lightly with a pencil (You could easily trace or use a projector if you’re not comfortable with freehanding. A few quick points as it pertains to watercolors and watercolor paper: Watercolor Banner The Cake: Tada!

Mini Marquee Sign with Lights. We made this giant marquee sign last summer and I loved making it so when I saw these Mini Globe Lights I knew had to make a mini version. I actually made this project last month but forgot to take photos. So when I pulled them out of the bag the letters were a little bent after being ignored. They are made out of paper so if they are on a shelf they’ll be fine but from experience I just don’t recommend cramming them in a paper bag. . Click through for full instructions and photos! (p.s.: The letters don’t light up separately, it’s just a photoshop trick. Thank you all so much for such amazing feedback and for helping this project circulate all over the internet! My cups have held up pretty well due to not being used too often (they are currently just holding bobby pins in my bathroom) but several readers said after a little wear and tear, the paint comes off. Other readers have found that using paint specifically for glass leads to a much longer life! In the comments, readers have specifically stated that Martha Stewart Paints and DecoArt paints have lasted the best. I have used both, and love them both! Here's the thing about Anthropologie; everything is gorgeous.

Let the knockoff begin! The internet taught me that I can use acrylic paint on glass as long as I seal it afterwards, so thats what we are going to do here. In true knockoff fashion, I did one rainbow confetti, and one each of red and blue. So there you have it. Xo, Knock it Off! The Orimono Pillow. I kind of cringe when people tell me I’m creative, because deep down I don’t feel I am a truly creative person. Crafty, yes. But creative? I wish. To me, legit creativity is pretty rare, and most of us–me included–are just pretty good copycats. I have to really stretch my brain to come up with original design. There are those times when I do have a stroke of brilliance, but most of the time I am seeing and admiring, and then just recreating–with a few modifications. But when I discover a truly creative person, I sort of just slobber and drool, because there’s nothing so dazzling as raw talent.

So I openly admit to being (most of the time) nothing more than a copy-cat. My first official Knock it off! The Orimono Pillow from Anthropologie: price tag $88 smackaroos. My knock off total price: $3. $0 for the scrap fabric, $2 for 3 yards of heavy white linen, and $1 for a throw pillow, both thrifted (and I obviously didn’t use all 3 yards of the linen…)
