The signs of addiction can be difficult to understand, and many adolescents don’t realize the long-term damage drugs have on their bodies because the short-term side effects fade. Most states and even some cities and counties offer outpatient and inpatient alcohol and drug treatment facilities that are completely tax supported and charge no fees. These programs can range from short-term detoxification centers to long-term residential treatment facilities and individual outpatient counseling at local clinics.
Withdrawal symptoms can be life-threatening if a person attempts to withdraw alone. A tapering method, which allows a person to slowly wean off a drug, can help people safely withdraw from benzodiazepines and prepare for a treatment program.
