Global Warming: Man or Myth?
A science watchdog has released a report slamming a course taught at Carleton University (Canada) over what they call “biased and inaccurate” claims concerning climate change. The course “Climate Change: An Earth Sciences Perspective”, taught by Tom Harris for two years, is the subject of a 98-page report written by the Committee for the Advancement of Scientific Skepticism (CASS) . The report constitutes a blow-by-blow response citing extensively from the scientific literature to rebut 142 erroneous and fully-quoted claims. On auditing the course, CASS discovered that key messages for students contradict accepted scientific opinion. These messages include: denying that current climate change has an anthropogenic cause; dismissing the problems that carbon dioxide emissions cause because CO2 is plant food; denying the existence of the scientific consensus on the causes of climate change; and claiming that we should prepare instead for global cooling.

Y = number of years that have passed since 1700 (or any other year where the net summation is approximately zero such as 1856, 1902, 1910, 1938, or 1943) It is vaguely reminiscent of the Stefan Boltzmann law , but he is certainly not using the Stefan–Boltzmann constant (which is more than 10 times larger than Dans).

Well, last week Marc Morano posted my email on his climatedepot website and his email blast, in the process of comparing me to the Stasi (secret police of the former East German one-party-rule Communist regime.) Over the past week I've had a stream of hostile emails in response. Here I re-post an earlier reply I gave at Joe Romm's ever lively and thought-provoking site www.climateprogress.org: As for web lists of statement signers: thanks Michael Tobis for saying it better than I ever could. Every list I compiled was from a statement already posted on the web.

I took a Digg break from analyzing SOM data this morning, and unfortunately I stumbled across a ridiculous article from the Daily Galaxy entitled, “ Is Global Warming Part of Earth’s Natural Cycle: MIT Team says ‘Yes’ “. This article is just dripping with ‘fail’ – it fails to honestly portray the story it represents, it fails at synthesizing that story with existing data, and it fails at communicating the implications of the story. The short of it: last October, a team of researchers at MIT announced that global atmospheric methane levels appeared to be rising once more .
T his interesting new video by George Marshall from Talking Climate discusses how to talk to someone who doesn’t accept the reality of climate change or the need to act, and how best to start persuading them that they might be in error. From the Talking Climate blog post : George emphasises that argument, conflict, and disrespectful language will make it more difficult to achieve the goals you are aiming for – that is, to encourage somebody who is sceptical about climate change to engage with the problem and possible solutions to it. Finding ‘common ground’ and being able to understand why people are sceptical about climate change in the first place is critical.

Together, we challenged thousands of high school students in select regions across the Northeast to combat climate change. To win the Green Dependence Day Challenge in the first place, high school students in New York City, Long Island, Upstate New York, and New England viewed the award-winning ACE Assembly on climate science and solutions.

Only a shiny BMW worshipping at St Arbucks for Easter weekend. But taken with a smart new camera! On Good Friday I finally got so fed up with my Sony TX10 that I went out and bought a Canon S100. To a country bumpkin like me, it is quite a thrill to buy consumer electronics after 9pm. Even better, you just walk in to the store, say you want to buy something, and no matter how expensive it is, they run and get it, you hand over the cash and walk out with your new purchase, all done within a couple of minutes.
