It was while Hans Joachim Wohlleben (Teacher & Town Councillor) was studying in Norwich that he was tasked with finding a suitable town for Otterndorf to form a Twinning Partnership with.

Introduction In the early 19th century most cargo was transported by sea rather than land.
Sailing ships were completely at the mercy of the elements; despite skilled seamanship they could be calmed for days or battered to pieces on rocks and sandbanks. Those who serve as lifeboatmen often come from families with a history of lifeboat service. Lifeboatmen often turn out in treacherous conditions to rescue complete strangers, not knowing if they will return to their own loved ones. Undaunted they attend rescue attempts time after time. But in 2002–03 a new impetus with a long term plan to achieve ACL Premier level was set and with a new Manager John Kowalyk and players saw them win titles in successive seasons 2002–03 Division 3, 2003–04 Division 2, 2004–05 Division 1 Championship titles. St Joseph, Sheringham Catholicism survived in Norfolk, just; often supported by the network of recusant landed gentry, it re-emerged as a missionary force in the 18th century, to be finally decriminalised by a succession of reform acts between 1780 and 1836.
Between these two dates, several Catholic churches were built in East Anglia which survive to this day, but it was only after 1836 that Catholicism was able to develop in earnest, and the re-establishment of the Catholic hierarchy in 1850 led to renewed confidence, and a nationwide pattern of parishes. The History of Sheringham Primitive Methodists. Norfolk Myth - Yow Yows of Sheringham and Where to Stay in Sheringham. It would be very remarkable if a town like Sheringham, with its long history of fisherman, smugglers and drowning, did not have its fair share of ghost stories.
One such story we heard is that of the Yow-Yows: Just beyond the cliffs, a long time ago, so the locals say, a captain of an old ship drowned. The fishermen of Lower Sheringham could have saved him, but made no effort to do so, perhaps because if he did not survive they could salvage his cargo!. As the captain’s lungs began to fill with water he cursed the fishermen of Lower Sheringham. Now the fishermen of today say that on calm days they sometimes hear voices calling for help, whilst they are out in their boats.

The town of Sheringham is on the north Norfolk coast, with houses and shops down to the edge of the sea. But the ancient town of Sheringham, today known as Upper Sheringham, is the settlement listed in the Domesday book of 1086. The town was then know variously as Silingham, Siringham or Schyringham.
Sheringham Savoyards. Sheringham Little Theatre in the 80s The Sheringham Savoyards, formed in 1979 to present (mostly) shows by Gilbert & Sullivan on stage in Sheringham's Little Theatre and occasionally elsewhere in Norfolk, came into being when it was realised that much local musical - mostly vocal - talent was available and not being used. A recent Act of Parliament had revised the structure and organisation of local government in England and Wales - the old Urban and Rural Districts were abolished in favour of new Districts under (in some cases) new Counties.
In Sheringham one result was that the Little Theatre, long run by the U.D.C. on an annual basis rented from the owners, Norfolk County Council, was now back with the County under direct control. Quite early in the proceedings a Music Sub-Committee was formed with Mrs Monica Jacobs of Kelling as its active and innovative secretary, with her husband Bill and other leading lights in the musical and dramatic world giving active support. Sheringham Golf Club : Sheringham Golf Club, Norfolk, England - CLUB View. Chris Taylor Photo Blog » History exposed – The Ispolen Wreck at Sheringham, North Norfolk. I was in the gym this morning when I received a phone call from a lady I’ve never actually met before, who knows I like to get out and take the odd photo, informing me that the old wreck of the Ispolen brig was exposed more than ever today & that it might be worth photographing. So, still sweating, I bundled into my car to grab my camera & get down the beach for some shots before the tide came in & hid her again (the ship that is, not the lady on the phone).
In case you’re interested….the Ispolen ran aground off Sheringham on 23.01.1897 during a massive storm, she was carrying ice from Norway. The town’s Henry Ramey Upcher Lifeboat launched into mountainous seas & managed to rescue the crew of eight. The wreck has lain preserved by the sand ever since and only occasionally is she visible above the sand when certain weather conditions scour the sand away to reveal her ribs.
