Netherlands wants international action against tax avoidance. The Dutch parliament has been debating the country’s role in international taxation and its position within the global network that facilitates tax avoidance, concluding that the issue of tax avoidance must be dealt with at an international level.
Marc Sanders, of VMW Taxand, said throughout 2012 and the start of 2013 a discussion has been taking place in the Netherlands regarding alleged tax avoidance opportunities made possible by structuring international groups through the Netherlands. “Following this discussion, the Dutch Lower House requested the Deputy Minister of Finance [Frans Weekers] to give a reaction to the tax planning opportunities that the Dutch tax system provides,” said Sanders. “Through his letter dated January 17, the Deputy Minister of Finance responded on this topic, stating that the possibilities at the disposal of multinational enterprises to enter into tax planning schemes are of an international nature.” Kamervragen over de Amerikaanse Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) Beantwoording Kamervragen over Apple.
