If all goes according to plan, it won’t be long before Google lands its winged fleet at Mineta San Jose International Airport at a brand new general aviation facility that will bring in millions of dollars. In a memo released Thursday, San Jose airport officials urged the city to approve a deal with Signature Aviation and Blue City Holdings — the company representing the Google fleet — that would result in a privately funded 29-acre, $82 million facility on land that was formerly a parking lot on the west side of the airfield.

“It’s a huge deal for the airport,” said Aviation Director Bill Sherry Thursday night of the proposal that must still be signed off by the San Jose City Council this spring. “We’ve been dealing for years (at the airport) with the economic downturn and layoffs and increased debt, and now suddently things are starting to turn around for us,” Sherry said. “This is the right move.” “It certainly makes sense,” said Mineta spokeswoman Rosemary Barnes.

Now you no longer need to use Wolfram Alpha to plot Math graphs. Google shows an interactive graph when you search for a Math function or a list of functions separated by commas. "You can zoom in and out and pan across the plane to explore the function in more detail. This feature covers an extensive range of single variable functions including trigonometric, exponential, logarithmic and their compositions, and is available in modern browsers," explains Google. { Thanks, Arpit. } [Infographie] Longue traîne : Google m’a tuer ! Google gets competitive in ‘big data’ with launch of SaaS-based BigQuery. How can big data and smart analytics tools ignite growth for your company? Find out at DataBeat, May 19-20 in San Francisco, from top data scientists, analysts, investors, and entrepreneurs. Register now and save $200! Google’s BigQuery application has launched into general availability with an aim to help businesses crunch “big data” sets easier and cheaper than ever, the company said Tuesday. BigQuery, as we previously detailed in November, gives companies of all sizes a powerful cloud-based tool to analyze data. Traditionally, crunching big data sets has taken more IT investment than simply spinning up and uploading data to a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) program. The SaaS software stands in stark contrast to open-source data software Hadoop and companies like Cloudera that help companies get a handle on Hadoop.

It’s also quite different from on-premise data crunching software like HP-owned Vertica and IBM-owned Netezza. Data image: Toria/Shutterstock.

Google social media. Google Brings More Real-Time Coverage, Google+ Comments To Google News. Google News already featured some integration with Google+ in the past, but today, Google is expanding this integration by bringing “relevant Google+ posts for a new social perspective” to its news aggregation site. Starting today, Google News users will be able to see what their circles, journalists covering the story and those who are the subject of the story have to say about it. Google News will now also feature a new “realtime coverage page” for every news story that will surface these Google+ comments, as well as new articles as they become available.

In addition to these updates, the Google News design will change a bit once these features go live, as Google is also expanding the size of the images on the main page. These updates are only coming to the U.S. edition of Google News for now. The main feature here, though, is obviously the addition of more content from Google+ on Google News.
