Vogue Paris’ 90th Anniversary Party (15 photos) In this decade, if I had the opportunity to crash any party I wanted, it would have been Vogue Paris’ 90th anniversary party. Held at the Hotel Pozzo di Borgo, Carine Roitfeld, the Editor-in-Chief of the French edition of Vogue, hosted the masked ball that was inspired by Stanley Kubrick's film Eyes Wide Shut. Among the magazine's favourite designers, performers and cover girls that came together to celebrate were Christian Louboutin, Jean Paul Gaultier, Tyra Banks, Gisele Bundchen, Kate Moss, Lara Stone (who stars on the cover of the 90th anniversary issue), Karolina Kurkova, Dita Von Teese, Craig David and Jade Jagger. So I finished this costume right in the nick of time; I was still sewing the day before I was set to leave!

The jacket, alas, never did get finished, but it was just warm enough that it didn't matter. The only other fail was me losing my stockings. I remember trying them on a few days before I needed to pack, but on the day I was packing? No stockings ANYWHERE. I still can't find them. Gah! I just hope they'll turn up by Steamcon, because I really, really do not want to shell out another $12 for another pair, and I don't really like any of my "back-up stockings" with this outfit. But on to the pictures. First, because this is a win/fail sort of situation, I'll show you the bustle. Since I made it using whatever I had at hand, and in a hurry (it was meant as more a test bustle than the real thing) it doesn't look too bad, right? Ye-up, several taxis later, that's one squished bustle! The collar. Second step, making the separate collar: Back/side view: And with the cravat in place:

It's getting cold, and winter is just around the corner... or more precisely somewhere in the north-western direction. And that means that we are getting swamped with winter gloves that are compatible with the modern era.

The problem is that regular gloves don't work with modern devices - especially touch screens. So a number of talented designers are coming up with ways to solve this particular snag. A few examples: Etre Touchy gloves simply made a glove with two fingers missing. Fine for most situations, but will cause serious risk of frost-bites anywhere near a mountain. Dots are made in a similar way, but instead of missing a finger, they have added a rubber "dot" at the tip. Tvo is doing almost the same thing, although these gloves seem rather thin. And Freehand are combining the two and have created flip-back-finger-tip gloves. And in case you live near the arctic circle, you can always take comfort in using Google Voice Search.
