Meggy Jr RGB. Meggy Jr RGB is a new kit that we designed as a platform to develop handheld pixel games.

Meggy Jr RGB

It’s based around a fully addressable 8×8 RGB LED matrix display, and features six big fat buttons for comfy game play. The kit is driven by an ATmega168 microcontroller, and you can write your own games or otherwise control it through the Arduino development environment. Meggy Jr is fast, programmable, open source and hackable. And fun. A unique feature of Meggy Jr RGB is that it is designed to be mounted inside a “handle set” — a wooden or plastic case that’s safer and more pleasant to hold than a bare circuit board. You can design your own custom handles, starting from our templates– either to make them on your own or to have them fabbed by laser shops like Ponoko or Pololu. The rule of the game is quite simple and as follows: Blocks of bricks each fail down in a play field, and a player can rotate and move the block sideways. When the block hits the ground or another block below, this piece stays at that position. Our Project We developed an AVR Tetris game system that allows a player to play Tetris via an Atmel microprocessor. Details hardware software design.

Tetrapuzz – Tetris clone for AVR. This is a projected that I finished development on over a year ago and I’m just now getting around to documenting it.

Tetrapuzz – Tetris clone for AVR

I wanted to program Tetris from scratch and make it modular so it could be used with different displays. Right now I know it’s working with a KS0108 graphic LCD screen. I also did quite a bit of work on it with the Nokia 3595 screen which is the trunk build of the SVN right now. For this writeup I threw together the KS0108 hardware and loaded that branch of the svn onto the ATmega168 so that I could take some pictures. I’m happy to say it worked like a charm. Gameplay is quite pleasing. I spent a lot of time working with the code to get the pieces to fit but not overlap each other or leave the game board. Hardware This is written for the AVR ATmega168 microprocessor. Software I used my own local subversion repository and the Eclipse IDE when developing the software.
