Events. Code Canyon. Best of Wordpress Plugins. Advertisement WordPress is the most widely used and adaptable content management system out there, but you’re probably going to want some plugins to make it just right for your needs. Here, I’ve collated what I think are the best plugins – both from experience, and community recommendations. Remember though, the more plugins you install, the slower your site will be, so there’s a delicate balancing act between features and performance.

Performance and Backup WordPress is great – but can be quite slow when faced with lots of traffic. Once you hit about 500 pageviews a day, you’ll need to start thinking about caching pages so they don’t need to be regenerated every time. Note: Many of these plugins should only be configured by advanced users – they could potentially break your site, so take care. W3 Total Cache The Swiss Army knife of caching and performance plugins, W3 handles everything from page caching to Content Delivery Networks and file minification. NextGEN Gallery. Calculators. Builder plugns. Sliders. Membership tools. Project management. Ithemes pluginbuddy series. Breadcrumb Trail: WordPress Plugin. One of the things I always try to include in all of my WordPress themes is a breadcrumb menu. That way, users don’t have to fiddle around in the template files and test out a lot of other plugins. So, I’ve been building up my breadcrumb script for well over a year now. I figured it was about time to release it to everyone else. I realize there’s quite a few other plugins out there that provide breadcrumb menus, so I’m not going to try and convince you why my plugin is better than any of the others. I’ll just let you test drive it yourself. What does this plugin do? It gives you a new template tag called breadcrumb_trail() that you can place anywhere in your theme.

It’s a navigational tool that outputs something like this: Browse: Home / Page / Sub-page. Of course, you can change the output and style it however you want. If you’re a theme developer, a couple of extra filter hooks have been provided for you: breadcrumb_trail_args and breadcrumb_trail. Download the plugin. WP Super Popup. Thought I’d throw my 2 cents in for this popup.

It’s nice and simple to use, it does what it does, popups up a simple screen with you sales pitch, and it’s free, I recently paid $20 for a similar one that I could only use on one site. Someone mentioned you can’t link out, not true, you can put links on any text you are using in the Tiny MCE editor and you can make them open in a new tab/window or in the parent window, easy really. My only gripe, which is why I’m giving it 4 stars is that you can’t put a background image in the popup, at least I haven’t found a way anyway. Shortcode Exec PHP.

Text Expander. Website-elements which are collapsable help avoiding visual noise these days and give control to the user, what they want to see. Dagon Design developed a WordPress-Plugin called “Expanding Text” which enables a blogger to make any part of a post collapsable. I wasn’t entirely convinced with it, so I forked my own plugin. Improvements compared to Expanding Text You can freely choose a text to be shown in front of the expand-link (default is a double-arrow), which indicates whether the part is collapsed or expanded next the expand-part will expand via a jQuery-animation. This looks a lot better, than having the text just appear all of the sudden. You can add expanding text directly with a media-button in the article editor Extract the zip file and just drop the contents in the wp-content/plugins/ directory of your WordPress installation and then activate the Plugin from Plugins page.

There are no reviews for this plugin. “Text Expander” is open source software. Contributors hedge.
