Number Spirals. Introduction The well-known Ulam spiral and the variant developed by Robert Sacks, the Sacks spiral, show interesting geometric patterns in the positions of primes. This page explores a simple extension of these spirals to visualize the number of unique prime factors for each number and provides Python code for drawing them, along with some pre-rendered examples, in PostScript and PNG format.

Every image has (or should have!) The Python script used to generate it -- see the code section for details of what you need to run these. Python source code files are shown inside square brackets. Construction The layout of the Sacks spiral aligns the squares (1,4,9,16,... etc) along a straight line heading east from the center. Theta = sqrt(i) * 2 * pi r = sqrt(i), and thus its x,y co-ordinates are given by: x = -cos(sqrt(i)*2*pi)*sqrt(i) y = sin(sqrt(i)*2*pi)*sqrt(i) The result is a spiral like this (primes are colored bluish-green, squares olive-yellow): Prime Factor Spirals Python Code Scaling Up.

DoodleBuzz: Typographic News Explorer. Pictures by John Dawes | home. Obsessives: Soda Pop - CHOW.com. The Zumi Digital. Q: So ... how is the Zumi Triple Plus different than previous generations? A: The Zumi Triple Plus has ten color modes (yes, TEN). That's eight more than previous generations (that just had B&W and color. Check out the image viewer above for samples of each mode. They're perdy. Q: What size files are we dealing with here? A: The Zumi has both Hi and Lo resolution setting a 1600 x 1200 image can be anywhere from 900-950KB and varies depending on the setting. Q: What kind of battery does the Zumi take and where can I find it?

A: She operates on a CR2 3V Lithium Battery which you can find just about anywhere that sells camera batteries. Q: Is the sound feature optional? A: Yuperoni. Q: What's the deal with the image viewer? A: Alright Seinfeld, it's all about the unpredictable charm of using a film camera. Q: What is a MicroSD card? A: They're these super tiny memory cards that are normally used in cellular phones. Q: How do I upload from a MicroSD card? A: Super simple, floppy disk (jk).
