Fly Like an Underwater Superman...Aquaman? Island Longboards : : Stand Up Paddleboards. At Island Surf Company we have been Stand Up Paddleboarding since 2006. We were the first shop in Canada to carry SUP boards; not only stock them, but ride them as well. Deal with the original - serving the Vancouver Island since 1998. Stand Up Paddleboarding is an exciting alternative to conventional surfing in that the surfer remains standing and moves through the water by paddling a long, canoe style paddle. Typically more suitable for smaller summer beach break waves or a nicely lined up point or reef break, Stand Up Paddleboarding is also a great alternative to kayaking or canoeing on flat open waters such as protected harbors, inlets, inland lakes and even slow moving rivers. Here at Island Surf Company, we offer a great selection of stand up paddleboards as well as all of the accessories you might be needing, such as paddles, leashes, racks and rail tape.

Kaholo Wood Touring Stand-Up Paddleboard: Build Your Own in Under 60 Hours! Why are Stand-Up Paddleboards all the rage? Because they're ridiculously fun, like walking on water.
We made a lot of believers out of folks who have tried out our new Kaholo SUP kits at shows across the country. It's taken five years and more prototypes than we care to count to refine the two Kaholo SUP boards. Working with surfing and paddleboard guru Larry Froley of Gray Whale Trading in California, we've created two beautiful hollow wooden boards with that rare quality of being fast enough to race but stable enough for first-timers. Tracking is great and a fine bow with kayak-derived shaping lifts the Kaholo 12-6 and 14 up and over waves. The tail shape and twin fins facilitate surfing on long swells once your skills build up to that. With their uncanny speed, the Kaholo 12-6 and Kaholo 14 have found a following among racers. There are no other SUP boards in the world that are easier for a first-time boatbuilder, or better-looking.

Lincoln writes that it’s the classic style and is housed at the Vancouver Centennial Museum, Vancouver, B.C. The boat measures over 27 feet making it as long as most voyager canoes. Lincoln also notes that the Coast Salish style canoes evolved for use in inland seas. This canoe features an interesting flare along the sheerline. On a modeling and personal note, this canoe is the penultimate model. Specifications Length: 27 feet 6 inches Width: 3 feet 7 inches Draft: 8.4 inches Displacement: 1000 lbs. I advise letting economics help you make your decisions as to which materials to use. A good surfboard can be made with any of the materials mentioned in this book. Allow me to simplify your decision by suggesting the following: 1.
If you live where you can economically drive to a polyurethane foam distributor, (www.foamez.com, www.surfsource.net, www.fiberglasssupply.com etc.) buy a roughly shaped polyurethane blank. 2. If you have to pay shipping for a polyurethane blank, consider buying a partially preshaped polystyrene blank (same companies as in #1 above, and, as in paragraphs below). 3. If you have to pay shipping for a partially preshaped polystyrene blank, consider buying polystyrene block foam. You might save money by using polystyrene block and you might make a lighter board, but you will require probably four times more labor to shape polystyrene blocks, compared to a polyurethane surfboard blank.
Do not use foam from Lowe's, or Home Depot for your first board. BARK Paddleboards.
