The iOS app updates are geared toward taking eBay’s mobile business even higher by making it easier for customers to buy and sell merchandise using their iPhone or iPad. The updates integrate mobile cameras and editing, and streamlines the listing process by making uploading photos and item descriptions more simple.
Other new features include more advanced search capabilities with auto-complete and quicker checkout. eBay Makes A Big Bet On Gold And Silver Sales With New AMPEX-Powered Bullion Vertical. Last week, the marketplace company released data that showed that non-holiday days were posting massive gains, with PayPal reporting that its total global mobile payment volume on Sunday, Dec. 2, exceeded that of Cyber Monday by more than $1 million. This past Sunday, eBay posted record mobile shopping days in terms of sales again. eBay says Dec. 9 was the single-biggest mobile shopping day ever., with U.S. transacted mobile volume up 133 percent from last year’s biggest mobile shopping day, Sunday, Dec. 4. The day topped three consecutive Sundays of record mobile transacted volume for eBay U.S., starting with Sunday, Nov. 25, Thanksgiving weekend.
On Sunday, PayPal Mobile reached its second-biggest mobile shopping day of the year, tripling its year-over-year growth in global mobile payment volume compared to the second Sunday in December 2011. eBay And PayPal Posted Their Biggest Mobile Shopping Days Ever On Sunday. That makes Dec. 2 the biggest mobile shopping day in the history of PayPal. eBay and PayPal are still forecasting over $10 billion in mobile transactions and mobile payments volume, respectively, so it should be interesting to see if these numbers are exceeded thanks to these record-breaking days. And certainly, this year’s holiday shopping behavior could be a sign that Black Friday or Cyber Monday may not remain the biggest shopping days, as retailers extend promotions and more users flock to mobile devices. Black Friday: PayPal Sees Mobile Payments Jump 193 Percent; eBay Up 153 Percent. Black Friday numbers are strong across the board, according to initial reports coming in today from retailers and payments companies.
As IBM reported earlier today, total online sales saw a surge of 20.7 percent in spending from last year. eBay-owned PayPal is reporting that Black Friday global mobile payments volume was up 193 percent from last year. eBay is also reporting a major increase in transactions; total mobile volume in the U.S. was up 153 percent, and GSI Commerce saw a 198 percent jump in mobile sales. PayPal spokesperson Anuj Nayar says that the payments giant believes that this is the year where holiday shopping on mobile devices has gone mainstream. Yesterday, shoppers in Houston made the most purchases via PayPal using mobile phones. For Thanksgiving, eBay saw a 133 percent increase in mobile volume transacted; and PayPal saw a 173 percent increase. Early reports from yesterday pointed to better-than-expected online sales on Thanksgiving, and PayPal and eBay are reporting strong Thanksgiving numbers on mobile as well. eBay saw a 133 percent increase in mobile volume transacted on Thanksgiving, compared to 2011. PayPal says that Thanksgiving 2012 resulted in a more than 2.5-fold (173 percent) increase in global mobile payment volume compared to Thanksgiving 2011. According to PayPal, on Thanksgiving consumers around the world shopped on mobile most frequently between 12:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m.

PayPal also said that there was a 164 percent increase in the number of global customers shopping through PayPal mobile on Thanksgiving 2012 compared to last year. eBay’s VP of mobile, Steve Yankovich, told us in an interview this week that eBay users on iOS and Android are spending around the same time on the apps.
