PGA Tour veteran Ben Crane was quoted in Life & Style magazine as saying that he isn't surprised by allegations that Woods cheated on his wife: "This is no surprise to anyone who knows Tiger. He's a phony and a fake and he can't retain that squeaky-clean endorsement deal any longer. " Crane, who was also quoted as saying that Woods' wife, Elin Nordegren, may have "turned a blind eye because of the money and the kids and the lifestyle he provides," denies he gave the interview.

Crane said he hasn't given an interview in two months. This opinion was echoed by colleague Charles Warren, who said Nordegren is with Woods only because of his fame and money. There are some accounts that Haney felt frozen out by Woods, that Woods wasn't returning his phone calls, although he said at The Players last week, "Hank and I talk every day so nothing's changed. " Then again, Woods has by now painted himself into a corner where everything he says seems disingenuous. Certainly, Haney, a somewhat paranoid sort who would email writers who were critical of him, had to be stung by NBC's Johnny Miller's suggestions that Woods should ditch him. Other things?
