No-Knit Rosette Scarf - Martha Stewart Crafts by Technique

It wouldn't be spin to describe this craft as ridiculously easy. Although in some ways that's exactly what you do with a Knitwit: spin (well, wrap) thread around a circular or square-shaped tool to create loopy rosettes. Rendered with luxurious yarns such as mohair, these florets look decidedly modern. To determine how much yarn you'll need per rosette, follow this rule of thumb: Winding once around the tool requires two yards, winding twice requires three yards, and so on. The Knitwit kit ($20, knitwit.com ) comes with instructions, so we've limited the how-tos to our modifications. The basic technique involves wrapping the yarn and then twisting the tool's stem to release the floret with a satisfying pop. Scarf How-To As light as snowflakes, this flurry of rosettes makes a beautiful party accessory or gift.
When instructed to rib in the pattern below, knit 1, purl 1 alternately across the row. To wear the scarf, slip one end through either of the loops at front. If you don’t absolutely love pom poms or haven’t ever considered making them yourself, perhaps we can sway you after this week’s DIY. We adore pom poms and were beyond excited to discover the Clover Pom Pom Maker , which allows you to crank out pom poms of all sizes and 10 times faster than the conventional method. You will need a few skeins of yarn, a Clover Pom Pom Maker and a pair of scissors. The Clover Pom Pom Maker separates the process into two halves; you’ll start the first half of the pom pom by cutting about 7 yards of yarn. A time saving trick is to double it up twice, so you are working with 4 strands at one time. Because time is money, right?

DIY Fishtail Hat Band – HonestlyWTF

We were instantly inspired by this gorgeous rainbow fishtail braid in Free People ‘s September catalog and decided to recreate it, adding our own little twist: making the braid into a wearable hat accessory. Who said braids were limited to summer and hair? Cut about 40 strands of yarn about 3 feet long, knot at one end leaving a several inches of slack, and divide into two sections. Pull 4 strands of yard from the outside of the left section and add it to the right side. Do the same to the other side–pull 4 strands of yarn from the outside of the right section and add it to the left side. Repeat the steps until the desired length is achieved and secure it with a knot, leaving at least 6″ of slack at the end. http://honestlywtf.com/diy/diy-fishtail-hat-band/
