According to Analytics Monk the terms "oracle aws" and "amazon rds" have been trending amongst developers over the past few days.

So Amazon.com's announcement that Oracle Database 11g will be available as a part of Amazon RDS is either great timing or was already expected. Amazon Web Services users will be able to transfer existing Oracle licenses, buy new licenses or, interestingly, pay an hourly licensing fee instead of buying a license. Here's how the licensing fees break down: "Bring Your Own License" - (BYOL) - Customers with existing Oracle Database licenses can apply them to run Oracle Databases on Amazon RDS with no additional software licensing or support charges. On-Demand Database Instances (DB Instances) - This pay-by-the-hour licensing option requires no pre-existing licenses, up-front fees, or long-term commitments to run Oracle Databases on Amazon RDS. Customers pay a simple, hourly rate per RDS Database Instance running Oracle Database 11g.

Google's Groupon Bid Said Rejected. (Bloomberg) — Groupon Inc., a Chicago-based Internet-coupon service with more than 35 million users, walked away from an acquisition offer from Google Inc. yesterday, according to a person with knowledge of the matter. The proposed acquisition fell through amid hesitation by Groupon's founders, said the person, who requested anonymity because the talks are private. The startup will decide next year whether to sell shares in an initial public offering instead, the person said. The discussions could resume if both sides overcome their differences.

Google had offered $6 billion, including incentives that would be paid to the target's managers if performance targets were met, people familiar with the matter had said this week. Groupon would have helped its new owner expand in the $133 billion U.S. local-ad market and lessen its reliance on Internet-search advertising. Google's Biggest Deal Jill Hazelbaker, a spokeswoman for Google, said the company doesn't comment on rumors or speculation. Business Insider. How One App Sees Location Without Asking - Digits. Salesforce Service Cloud 3 Adds Customer Social Networking - PCWorld Business Center.

I was pleasantly surprised during an online presentation about Salesforce.com's Service Cloud 3. At first glance, it looks like a simple and powerful customer relationship management (CRM) tool that takes advantage of social networking to help connect with customers. The concept is simple. Customer input by phone, e-mail, Twitter, Facebook, and video sites displays in a single interface. This also offers information about different customers, such as their "tweeting" history, with links to relevant white papers or troubleshooting FAQs that can solve problems individual customers might have. This is all available through a Web browser, which means you can access the service, whether at your home office or on a PC at a café in the Bahamas, without downloading software. A main novelty is Service Cloud 3's aggregation. Salesforce.com says large enterprises can use the service to combine millions of queries about a common subject. Nokia in talks with Microsoft to develop Windows Phone handsets? 20 December '10, 09:08am Follow Here’s an interesting rumour to start off your week; according to Eldar Murtazin, the man behind many of the handset leaks you see today, is suggesting that Nokia has started talking with Microsoft over possible ways to expand its operations with the possible development of Windows Phone 7 handsets a very real possibility. Murtazin, writing his weekly op-ed, notes that the two companies met behind closed doors last month, a meeting spearheaded by new leadership teams at Nokia, discussing not only the option to exchange technologies but also roll out an “entire line” of Windows Phone devices.

The new devices would carry the Nokia brand, be sold via the same sales channels and retain the characteristics features of Nokia handsets. Keeping a sense of perspective, it’s easy to dismiss the rumours, especially after Nokia categorically ruled out any chances of working with Google and its Android operating system. Intucell Raises $6M Amid Telco Transformation: Tech News and Analysis « Intucell, an Israeli startup, has raised $6 million in a Series A round led by Bessemer Ventures. The company, which was founded in 2008, is one of several helping transform telecommunications networks to handle a wider array of base stations and methods of connecting back to the web.

Intucell’s technology uses idle cell phones to provide information about a network’s configuration and then automatically and in real-time helps adjust the network’s parameters to deliver a better user experience for customers. It doesn’t require a client installed on each cell phone, but instead senses the RF disruptions caused by idle handsets to map out where demand is likely to come from and how the network will react to it. Then its software installed in the core network can tell the equipment to take action; for example, shrinking the coverage area of a tower if it’s particularly overwhelmed.
