Pourquoi une entreprise qui fabrique des fromages, des chaussures, des emballages… ou qui propose des services devrait-elle s’équiper de serveurs, y installer des systèmes d’exploitation et des applications, et se charger de leur maintenance ? Au départ, elle souhaite surtout s’équiper d’une messagerie, d’une solution de comptabilité, voire d’un progiciel lié à ses activités. L’une des questions qui revient souvent dans les divers jurys auxquels je participe est celle de la « scalability », comprenez la capacité pour une jeune entreprise de grossir facilement, ou en tout cas avec des coûts maîtrisés, et d’ être capable de reproduire son modèle . Certains parleront même d’industrialisation. Question pertinente côté investisseurs, mais aussi pour les entrepreneurs : si tous les créateurs ne se lancent pas pour faire une « grosse » entreprise, la plupart y songent tout de même et pour certains c’est même l’une des seules façons de se faire plaisir à terme. Comment grandir, vite, bien, et de manière rentable ? Mais alors, qu’est-ce que c’est qu’un business « scalable » ?

I wanted to applaud this initiative for bring the US educational system into the 21st century by a focus on building the emerging technologies infrastructure and capacities for students to use technology in their learning experiences in ways that personalize and engage learners to achieve at their potentials. The concern I have in my 40 years as an educational psychologist with a specialty in learning technologies is that we place too much faith in the technology without recognizing that it is the learners who decide how much they will learn or whether they will engage at all with whatever learning technology is used. The newer technolgoies and their use in gaming and simulations increases the likelihood that learners will engage but they are not the fundamental source of the success.

Le 5ème appel à propositions du Programme cadre Compétitivité – Innovation , CIP-ICT PSP-2011-5, sera publié prochainement.Le budget estimatif est de 125 M€. En 2011, le programme CIP TIC PSP (programme d'innovation et de compétitivité utilisant les TIC en soutien aux politiques publiques) s’adresse à des projets destinés à promouvoir la mise en place de services pilotes ( il ne s'agit pas d'un programme de recherche ). The company’s first service, called Team Space, allows coworkers to communicate using spatially-aware avatars. Within the space, workers can enter virtual offices and instantly conduct meetings with video, voice and screen shares. Individual users typically have their own offices for private communications, and conference rooms are reserved for larger meetings. Sococo currently has more than 10,000 users in over 58 countries ranging from small software startups to teams within big name companies like Yahoo.
