Twitter Bots: Scourge of the low-end spam botsITsecurity. Though Twitter goes to great lengths to thwart fake bot accounts, spam bots are pervasive throughout the Twitter ecosystem. Whether it is a 6,000+ real and verified twitter followers (yeah, right!) For $5.00 over at Fiverr or a flat 6 month $49.99 subscription at Twitter Supremacy — bots come in all flavors — You can buy a set amount of fake followers, become an affiliate, subscribe to an anonymous automation service, or purchase some clever little bot tutorials down at the Evo marketplace (in the Darknet).

Last summer Twitter refuted that mischievous bots lurked behind 23 million accounts — According to Twitter’s SEC (Securities and Exchange Commission) filing: These fake bots (spam accounts) make up less than 5% of Twitter’s monthly active users. Low-end Bots Regardless of the percentage of fake bots claimed by Twitter, there is still a copious scourge of nettlesome low-end bots that slide under the radar.

Once again, we're reminded of a maxim when it comes to publishing on other people's platforms: we publish at their sufferance. But there's a corollary: When they take down what we publish, they take an enormous risk with their own futures. This time, Twitter has suspended the account of a British journalist who tweeted the corporate email address of an NBC executive. The reporter, Guy Adams of the Independent, has been acerbic in his criticisms of NBC's (awful) performance during the Olympics in London.

Adams has posted his correspondence with Twitter, which claims he published a private email address. It was nothing of the kind, as many, including the Deadspin sports blog, have pointed out. What makes this a serious issue is that Twitter has partnered with NBC during the Olympics. If not, this is a defining moment for Twitter.

One of the great ironies in Monday's events is that the corporate address of the NBC executive, Gary Zenkel, has now spread widely around the internet. Teksquisite : Not nearly as attractive a... TweetDeck interrupted, amid reports of security access breach | Digital Media. This much we do know: TweetDeck got taken offline by its parent Twitter today. Hardly earthshaking news by itself. But was there also a security breach that granted unauthorized access to other people's accounts? TechCrunch pointed to an Australian user named Geoff Evason who claimed he was able to get into hundreds of Twitter and Facebook accounts through the Mac client app for TweetDeck.

The guy also put up a screenshot purportedly of some of the accounts he allegedly got into. "I'm a Tweetdeck user. CNET subsequently reached Evason by e-mail: "I wasn't exploiting a flaw I found. When you want to hook somebody, you throw the most favorite item of the victim as the bait. So do phishing crooks. They have thrown a number of such baits to hook Apple fans offering a chance to participate in Apples fake SMS texting test for an upcoming iPhone 5.

The message is spreading through social networking sites, Twitter and as text messages. So be careful about the trap. The message enlightens you by sharing the information that the iPhone making Cupertino giant is looking out for a clean 1000 testers to check with the text messaging facility on the upcoming iPhone 5. We do adore the humor sense of the crook for making up such a message, since he will be getting real gullible only in this trap. After all, Apple never admits an upcoming product; let alone looking for the public to test their device, that too through a third party. The scam is so far found not causing any harm, but is expected to be selling the information entered by the victims to other criminal organizations. Klr66p Shared by teksquisite.

Jack Dorsey Cleaning House At Twitter: 4 Key Product Guys Are Out. Breaking news out of Twitter this afternoon, four key product managers have just been let go, we’ve learned. The move was led by Jack Dorsey and will see key product guys Kevin Cheng, Josh Elman, and two others we’ve yet to confirm, leave the company. Twitter refuses to comment on any specific names and would only say that “some people have left the company and we appreciate their contributions”. But we’ve independently confirmed that both Cheng and Elman are two of those no longer with the company.

Both of these guys have been vital to the Twitter product over the past couple of years. Cheng, for example, was key on the “New Twitter” project. Elman was previously with Facebook. This move is said to be led by Dorsey as a final measure to remove those still closely affiliated with the old Evan Williams, Biz Stone, and Jason Goldman regime. Reached, Cheng and Elman both declined to comment. Hswy7mp Shared by teksquisite. Steve Death: Twitter's like a bunch of...

It’s easy to forget just how exciting and revolutionary ICQ was. Almost overnight it took two of the most powerful features of the walled-garden online services—being able to see when your friends were online and message them in real time—and brought them to the Internet.

People signed up in their millions, and for good reason. Unfortunately, while everyone loved the service, it only took a couple of upgrades before the client software was universally loathed. The problem was there was only one company making ICQ clients. Thus there was no competitive pressure to improve the core experience of sending and receiving messages from your friends, but boy was there pressure to add just one more advertisement panel, or yet another button to pump sponsored newsfeeds and stock quotes to millions of entirely uninterested college students. Which brings us to today’s announcement from Twitter directed to its third-party developers, saying in essence: It's a silly battle that's been fought before.
