The Pastry Affair - Home - Banana Pudding. This week has been full of sad, devastating, and difficult news. With the disaster of unfathomable proportions in Japan and the Libyans struggle for freedom, it's easy to feel upset or overwhelmed with emotion every time I turn on the television or glance at a newspaper. When I see the footage of Japan, I just get sick to my stomach. I feel helpless as an observer. There are certainly ways to help or get involved; a donation to the Red Cross can aid a wounded nation. The simple act of sending out thoughts of hope and support can comfort others in the smallest (and biggest) of ways. Though, for me, sometimes it just doesn't seem enough. I admit I feel guilty when I see disaster or people struggling. Today my biggest concern was what to make for dinner. I sincerely believe the solution can be found in appreciation.

Do what you can to help those in need, in whichever way you are capable, but then help yourself. This banana pudding is soft and full of banana flavor. Banana Pudding. While these don’t travel well, they are super fast and I find they’re a good size for my 3 year old. I’m so good to you. So the core ingredient in this ice cream is bananas. It’s almost magical – if you slice up a banana, freeze the slices, and then blend the frozen pieces in a food processor, it turns into a smooth, creamy substance that is very much like ice cream. Assuming you want to branch out beyond banana flavored ice cream, your first option is a nice simple berry blend. But seriously, does anyone actually like fruit flavored ice cream? For me the presence of homemade cookies is something very calming. Maybe because the heavenly smell of freshly baked cookies brings back memories of a simpler more secure time in life, I don’t know… Homemade cookies are the ultimate comfort food and I just love baking cookies. In the last few weeks I found myself bookmarking nearly every cookie recipe I’ve come across. And then one evening, not so long ago we found we both crave something chewy and chocolaty. Instinctively, I opened my “chocolate cookies” bookmarks and pulled one of the many recipes I had stored.

I later realized that I possess a small collection of variations of the same recipe (!) Coming from Alice Medrich book Bittersweet: Recipes and Tales from a Life in Chocolate So at this point it’s difficult to say where exactly I saw it first but I can understand why these saucepan fudge drops are such a foodie trend these days. The cookies are rich and fudgy inside, crispy at the edges and densely chocolaty. Method. Stawberry Banana Pudding. This was a request from one of my husband’s coworkers. She’s pregnant, so whatever she has an urge for, I quickly make it for her that night, so she has it the next day.

I take inspiration wherever I can find it, and pregnant women are just about the best inspiration anywhere. When my husband came home to me and asked me to make strawberry banana pudding for the pregnant girl at work, I thought, “Wow, isn’t that clever!” I had never heard of it before, however I couldn’t believe I hadn’t thought of it myself sooner. What a brilliant and simple idea. I love taking desserts everyone loves, like banana pudding, and putting a fresh new spin on them. Chocolate Truffles for your lover! | My easy cooking by Nina Timm. Dark chocolate pudding. I love sleeping in on Sundays, waking up to a bright sun streaming in through the blinds and lighting up the room. I love walking into the kitchen and not having to turn on any lamps, because the natural sunlight is enough to give the apartment a warm glow.

I love opening the door to a fresh, cool breeze and knowing that spring is just inches away. Not to mention that turning on the telly and finding out that it's abc's Harry Potter weekend is also a lovely surprise. Though I suppose, in retrospect, this is probably the worst weekend for something as enticing as a Harry Potter movie marathon to be going on. It just diminishes my already lacking motivation to write start this paper I have due tomorrow. Then again, since I will be referencing Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban in aforementioned paper, perhaps it's warm-up before I start. A sort of mental prep, if you will. Dark Chocolate Pudding Adapted from The Shoebox Kitchen You'll need: Serve with sweetened whipped cream, if desired.

Red Wine Italian Meringue Clouds with Sweet Strawberries. This might be a problem. Last night when I was baking, I asked Jonathan to grab me a bag of sugar from the back room (the "cantina"). I had run out of my supply in the kitchen - no surprises there. Turns out that it was my last bag in the back. Jon recalls that we bought at least 4 or 6 kilos last week. To think I go through a bag of sugar a week or more scares me a little bit. Doctors would hate me. Still not a single cavity though! This light, gluten-free Springtime dessert certainly isn't shy about sugar.

It uses 1 cup for the meringues alone. This is Italian Meringue, which is a meringue that is made from a boiled sugar syrup as opposed to regular granulated sugar like in French Meringue, making it very stable. After making the meringue, I spooned it into a large piping bag fitted with a big star tip and piped it into little nests. I like to make these meringue shells the Italian way, because it allows me to put red wine in it. Gorgeous. Want to know something really great? BINGO! Girl Cooks World: Indonesian Black Sticky Rice Pudding.

Indonesian Black Sticky Rice Pudding Let me just put this out there for the record: I like simple recipes. I like recipes that don’t have an excessive number of steps, don’t use more than one or two dishes or pans, and don’t call for a lot of pre-planning. That said, every once in awhile a dish will make me forget all of my recipe hang-ups. This is one of those dishes. While the ingredient list is short, it does take a number of steps, more than one pan, and a little bit of planning. Indonesian Black Sticky Rice Pudding Ingredients: * 1 & 1/4 cup black glutinous/sticky rice * 1 & 1/4 cup water * 4 tablespoons palm sugar, divided * 1 can coconut milk * Pinch salt * 1 vanilla bean * 1 & 1/2 teaspoons cornstarch * 1/2 cup dried unsweetened shredded coconut Directions: Put the rice in a large bowl and cover with cold water and leave to soak for 4-6 hours. Superbowl Party: Puppy Chow. Matcha Meringue Kisses « Crustabakes. I wanted these meringue to be of a bright, bright green colour, to get into the St. Patrick’s Day mood. But they turned out pale faced and ashen. In fact if you take a closer look at it, they do like upturned green casper ghosts. I guess i was a bit apprehensive when adding my matcha powder into the batter as i was afraid the green tea flavour would be too overpowering for the people who would be eating it. Plus, i was kinda skimping, cause green tea powder are pretty hard to come by, with only certain specialty stores carrying it. In my defence, the batter colour was of vibrant green, the colour that i was aiming for.

But i guess as the cookies dry in the oven, so does the colour. No harm done though, cause these cookies were delicious. The green tea flavour was quite distinct, without being too overpowering. Ps: The tips of this meringue browns and gets dark in colour very easily, so u might want to watch out for that and keep the low oven temperature in check. Matcha Meringue Kisses. Bakery-Style Chewy Brownies. Much like the brownies sold at your local bakery or even the “Corner Bakery” chain, these brownies are sweet and chewy with a crunchy meringue-like top. They are great in a lunch box or as the base of a brownie sundae. Brownies generally fall into three categories, fudgy, chewy and cakey.

Most people have a preference amongst the three. My preference falls between fudgy and chewy depending on my mood. These are the chewy variety, for more of a fudgy brownie, check out this recipe and for the absolute fudgiest brownie I’ve ever had, go here. You may notice that the original recipe for this brownie describes it as “fudge-like”, but I respectfully disagree. These semantics are sometimes difficult to convey, but I think of fudgy brownies as having almost lost their “crumb” and become more like a thick candy consistency in the center. One thing is for sure, its hard to find each person’s perfect brownie. Ingredients and method make a big difference in the final result of any brownie. Mississippi mud pie.

When I first saw that Mississippi mud pie recipe in Matt Lewis & Renato Poliafito cookbook "Baked exploration" it felt like a dream come true, like meeting the pie you know you're going to spend the rest of your life with...I just switched coffee ice cream for peanut butter whipped cream (mister frog wouldn't dare to eat coffee) and made my own cocoa crust... When we returned, muddy pawed and booted and chilly, all three of us, we warmed up with big mugs of cinnamon tea and then shared this little cake. My sweet Auntie Bitsy sent me this recipe a few years ago. I upped the cocoa, oil, and chocolate so that it’s even more moist and chocolate-y than the original. Just the other day my three-year old came up to me and made what looked like an unassuming request, Amma (mom) can I have “choca-lake pudding”?

Simple as it seemed, it startled me to bits, pleasantly of course. A never-heard-of food request of this sort from my little one whom I have known to be or rather labelled as a picky-eater ages back, was quite a welcome surprise. It was no ordinary day for me, it was a dream come true for a mother who was all-ears yearning to hear at least something remotely similar to ‘any food request’. Overwhelmed, I showered her with hugs and kisses, in turn all she gave me was a bewildered look and the same request repeated few times more than my little girl could count. That did it for me. I was whole-heartedly thankful for mickey mouse clubhouse for rousing the curiosity to explore a new food in an otherwise reluctant and judgemental (of food) pre-schooler.

Here’s the question, what is your favorite pudding? Easy Egg-less Chocolate Pudding Recipe Like this: Chocolate Mousse-Filled Oranges. Better-Than-Crack-Brownies.
