Half Of Top U.S. Banks Made Loans To European Banks: Fed. WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Around half of top U.S. banks surveyed by the Federal Reserve reported making loans or extending credit to European banks, which are under massive pressure from an ongoing political crisis. The findings from a quarterly lending poll suggest that the U.S. banking system faces significant risks from Europe, despite relatively small direct exposure to the troubled sovereign bonds of southern European states like Greece.

"About one-half of domestic banks respondents, mostly large banks, indicated that they make loans or extend credit lines to European banks or their affiliates or subsidiaries, and about two-thirds of the foreign respondents indicated the same," the U.S. central bank said in its Senior Loan Officer Survey, published on Monday. Of the domestic banks, about two-thirds reported having tightened standards on loans to European financial institutions in the third quarter, many considerably. Copyright 2011 Thomson Reuters. Seniors Join Occupy Chicago, Protest Cuts To Medicare, Social Security (PHOTOS, LIVE BLOG) More than 1,000 senior citizens and their supporters marched from Chicago's Federal Plaza to the intersection of Jackson and Clark Street Monday morning to protest proposed cuts to Medicare, Medicaid, Social Security and Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

At the intersection, more than 40 protesters, 15 of them seniors affiliated with the Jane Addams Senior Caucus, stood or sat in the street, arms linked, blocking traffic. Amid chants demanding that the cuts be forestalled -- with suggestions for alternatives, including tax hikes -- 43 demonstrators were escorted from the intersection (see video, above) by police and issued citations for pedestrian failure to "exercise due care," or for blocking traffic. Those cited included four protesters using assisted mobility devices and at least one centenarian. "When I was younger, I never did protests," she said. "I was a silent majority. Now, I'm ready to make noise. " "We paid into these programs," Patricia Kerz, pictured below, said. Sen. Abbot Downing, Wells Fargo's Bank For Super Rich, Opening In Chicago. Wells Fargo & Co.'s new bank for the super rich is set to open in Chicago, targeting households with $50 million or more to invest.

Abbot Downing is named after a 19th century custom carriage builder who catered to the wealthy, according to UPI. The firm has $27.5 billion in client assets and about 300 people on staff -- including psychologists and staff dedicated to building family genealogies, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. "Abbot Downing goes beyond traditional wealth planning analysis by focusing on clients' values, goals and vision," James Steiner, who will run Abbot Downing, said in a statement. "Our advisors and Family Dynamics consultants focus not only on traditional wealth planning, such as cash flow, investments and wealth transfer, but also on human dimensions, such as family legacy, governance, leadership transition, family education and risk management. " The brand will reportedly be launched in April 2012. Occupy Wall Street Protesters Clash With Police Outside Courthouse. NEW YORK -- Hundreds of Occupy Wall Street protesters clashed with police in front of the New York Supreme Court building Saturday afternoon, after they and thousands others marched across to Foley Square from Zuccotti Park.

At first, police officers stationed along the route largely stood by and watched as protesters marched up Broadway, playing tambourines, drums and harmonicas and chanting slogans like "How do you fix the deficit? Stop the wars, tax the rich! " As the protest swelled near Foley Square, New York Police Department motorcycles and cars began blocking off intersections. Stranded drivers honked -- angrily, as they impotently inched forward towards the protesters, or in support, cheering and sticking thumbs ups and peace signs out the windows of their vehicles.

The protesters were met on the steps of the courthouse by a line of officers, and more soon arrived, armed with plastic ties and rolled up orange barricades. Before moving in, a group of officers coordinated. What caused the financial crisis? The Big Lie goes viral. One group has been especially vocal about shaping a new narrative of the credit crisis and economic collapse: those whose bad judgment and failed philosophy helped cause the crisis. Rather than admit the error of their ways — Repent! — these people are engaged in an active campaign to rewrite history. They are not, of course, exonerated in doing so. And beyond that, they damage the process of repairing what was broken. They muddy the waters when it comes to holding guilty parties responsible. They prevent measures from being put into place to prevent another crisis. Here is the surprising takeaway: They are winning. A Big Lie is so colossal that no one would believe that someone could have the impudence to distort the truth so infamously.

Wall Street has its own version: Its Big Lie is that banks and investment houses are merely victims of the crash. Indeed, the arguments these folks make fail to withstand even casual scrutiny. Why are people trying to rewrite the history of the crisis? Bill Moyers: Our Politicians Are Money Launderers Not Too Different from Tony Soprano | Occupy Wall Street. I am honored to share this occasion with you. No one beyond your collegial inner appreciates more than I do what you have stood for over these 40 years, or is more aware of the battles you have fought, the victories you have won, and the passion for democracy that still courses through your veins. The great progressive of a century ago, Robert LaFollette of Wisconsin – a Republican, by the way – believed that “Democracy is a life; and involves constant struggle.” I began my public journalism the same year you began your public advocacy, in 1971. Everybody on the ground, you're under arrest! " the officer yelled through his gas mask, gesturing with his baton. A series of escalations at Occupy Oakland following Wednesday, November 2nd's General Strike culminated in 101 arrests between 1 and 2 am on Thursday morning -- including my own.

Interim Oakland Police Chief Howard Jordan called the arrestees "generally anarchists and provocateurs" in a statement later Thursday. While police from around the Bay Area geared up for a confrontation, Occupy Oakland was shifting strategies. At the same time, barricades were built up at either end of 16th street. 12:06 a.m. 12:09 a.m. She hasn't updated since. For the initiated, Sky Watch is like one of those mechanical forest walkers from the Star Wars movies without the lasers or the walking. Also used by the U.S. military, from Marines in the tiny African nation of Djibouti to sailors at a Navy base in the United Arab Emirates, as well as police departments all around the U.S., the 8,000-plus pound Panopticon-like structure -- originally used by hunters to shoot quarry from overhead -- has become a favorite of those who are partial to coercive surveillance.

" I’m honored to speak to you today about money and politics, but it’s not the first time I’ve been here. This is actually the third time I’ve visited your encampment.

I’m a social scientist, so I actually counted: about a third of all the signs that day had money and politics as their themes. So I begin by thanking you for reminding the rest of us about what really matters: That our problem right now is not “the government.” It is to force government to take account of the interests of the 99% of Americans who have been left holding the bag for bank bailouts, bonuses, and corporate welfare as they scramble to find jobs and dig themselves out of debt. Disregard claims that most Americans don’t yet have a clear view of you.
