The Secret To Successfully Using iPads In Education. My brother recently built a shelf for my daughter’s room. It is in the likeness of a boat that she will one day spend sunny afternoons on, cruising around Plymouth harbor. He used a saw, a hammer, glue and other assorted tools that I couldn’t explain or name. I am not a carpenter nor am I skilled at building anything with my hands. However, I do know this. When my brother started the project, he did not pick up his hammer and get inspired, engaged or motivated. 5 Critical Mistakes Schools Make With iPads (And How To Correct Them) iPad Classroom Next Term? – 10 Things to Consider. I was raised back in the day when teachers showed 16mm films in the classroom. It was a special event: the A/V librarian would wheel in an aqua-colored Bell & Howell projector, one of us nerdy types would wind the film through the various rollers, the screen would come down, the lights would go off and the magic would begin.

Even the most boring film was still surrounded by this specialness, which set it apart from business-as-usual in the classroom. Digital technology doesn't enjoy this same elevated, ritualized status in school. JTHS Instructional Technology: Technology Integration: How Do You Know if You are "Doing it Right?" JTHS Instructional Technology: Technology Integration: How Do You Know if You are "Doing it Right?"

We love to hear this question because that tells us that the teacher is starting to analyze and evaluate how they are integrating technology and are looking for a way to gauge their effectiveness. How To Integrate Education Technology With Scaffolding. Imagine asking students to write a research paper without teaching them how to write an introduction, body and conclusion first. How about writing the equation of the quadratic formula on the board, and just giving students a set of problems to start solving with no prior instruction? These types of tasks are nearly impossible for students if teachers do not break up the learning process into small chunks aimed at meeting the students where they are and then building on them to create new knowledge, otherwise known as scaffolding.

Lydia Dobyns: A '21st Century' Education Is SO Last Century. It's not rational, but I'll admit that whenever I hear "21st century classroom" or "21st century skills" -- I tense up. Why? Because we are starting the 13th year of this "future" century.
