Google Scholar Metrics Help. Google Scholar Metrics provide an easy way for authors to quickly gauge the visibility and influence of recent articles in scholarly publications. Scholar Metrics summarize recent citations to many publications, to help authors as they consider where to publish their new research. To get started, you can browse the top 100 publications in several languages, ordered by their five-year h-index and h-median metrics. To see which articles in a publication were cited the most and who cited them, click on its h-index number to view the articles as well as the citations underlying the metrics. You can also explore publications in research areas of your interest. To browse publications in a broad area of research, select one of the areas in the left column. To explore specific research areas, select one of the broad areas, click on the "Subcategories" link and then select one of the options.

Browsing by research area is, as yet, available only for English publications. Available Metrics. Getting Started with Altmetrics at Your Journal: An Editor's Guide. As the academic community increasingly embraces altmetrics, it’s important for journal editors and scholars to know what they are and how to use them. To accompany our free eBook The Evolution of Impact Indicators: From bibliometrics to altmetrics, Scholastica and Altmetric have created two slideshow guides that break down what altmetrics are, benefits of altmetrics tracking, and use cases for journals and researchers.

Below is the first slideshow about the role of altmetrics for journal editors. This slideshow overviews: Examples of altmetricsCommon misconceptions explainedSteps to track altmetrics dataFree resources to start learning more about altmetrics Today research outputs are moving online and being conveyed in new digital formats. As a result, many members of the academic community feel that traditional bibliometric impact indicators are no longer enough to tell the full story of how research is being found, shared, cited, and discussed. We’ve tried to make the Bookmarklet as straightforward and easy to use as possible. Below we’ve covered some common issues we know our users sometimes have, or you can visit our Support Forum for more information. Got the bookmarklet properly installed but finding it doesn’t work on some pages even though you can see a DOI on them? Try refreshing the page, highlighting the DOI with your cursor, and then clicking ‘Altmetric It’ again.Nothing happening when you drag the link to install the Bookmarklet?

Confusingly, Chrome will let you drag the bookmarklet to the area where the icons for your extensions appear (to the right of the address box). Still stuck?

Cet article est une traduction de « Metrics and their alter-egos, at #OAI8 ». Il a été traduit de l’anglais vers le français par Timothée Froelich. (Crédits image : Flickr/sickmouthy) En ce moment même au CERN (Genève) a lieu l’édition 2013 du workshop sur les innovations dans la communication scientifique (#OAI8).
