3.31.12, Join the PAGODA for an evening of gritty soul music provided by the production of Adrian Younge and his band “Venice Dawn” in support of his recent release off of Wax Poetics Records entitled Something About April. Something About April is a heavy, dark mix of psychedelic soul and cinematic instrumentals with hip-hop aesthetics, touching on influences from Morricone to King Crimson, Portishead to the Flamingos, Wu-Tang to Otis Redding. We also continue our celebration of the 50th issue release and 10 years of Wax Poetics Magazine. As always, Blind I got you on a pair of tickets for this Friday. All you gotta do is spit sumin fresh in the comments along with your email & we will chose the one that stands out the most. No trolling.Blind I | NO KNOWS DOPE | MARCH 20X | Blind I | The Boutique Music Blog | Quality Over Quantity.
Kanye West is taking this rap shit to another level. Purists hate it and do their best to make it known, but the artists who represent this brand can do nothing but find inspiration from daring and refreshing performances like the one Kanye put on last night on Saturday Night Live . Let’s keep in mind all the stuff that happened previously between Ye + SNL , then think about the attention to detail put into making a regular TV performance look like the actual Power video (how ill was the reveal concept for the dancers & the symmetry?) Add that to the fact that Pusha T was on SNL (Clipse fans share in my excitement), and Ye even dropped a new verse for Power to replace the one he had treating the hell out of the staff. All in all, it’s what a performance should be, and I GUARANTEE you everybody will be following his lead with these TV performance from now on.

It’s been over three years since Chicago baroque-pop band The 1900′s released their debut album Cold & Kind and other then an EP and some touring (including an opening slot with British Sea Power which I reviewed here ) things have been pretty quiet in the 1900s camp until now. The band will be releasing their sophomore album, Return of the Century in November and the first MP3 for the album is out now (via brooklynvegan ). The new song continues to display the band’s fondness for 60s / 70s era psych-pop with rich harmonies and gorgeous arrangements of strings, piano and acoustic guitar. Download the track below.
