Homemade Snickers Bars. Snickers bars have long played second fiddle to my first true love: Reese’s peanut butter cups.

Homemade Snickers Bars

It’s not their fault, really. Being a peanut butter-addicted kid, I always went for the treat with the highest peanut butter ratio. However, as I got older, I started to have a little affair with Snickers bars. I loved the combination of nougat, caramel, and peanuts… not to mention it was all covered in chocolate! I supposed I didn’t have to choose a favorite, did I? These bars have multiple steps that might make them appear a tad overwhelming or intimidating, but have no fear! Bottom chocolate layer. Honestly, the hardest part about making these is once they are done, not eating more than five at any given point in time.

When you are hungry and become like a werewolf DO NOT reach for a Snickers ever again! Make these! THEY ARE REALLY EASY. They just look like a lot. I have to give a girl named Nikki off of Pinterest credit for these although I DID alter mine a little bit. -Grease a 9×11 baking pan Bottom chocolate -melt 3/4 c milk choco and 3/4 c semi sweet chips with 1/4c peanut butter and a dash of vanilla in a bowl in microwave -spread evenly into bottom of greased pan.

Nougat: - melt 1/4 cup unsalted butter in sauce pan - add 1 cup granulated sugar and 1/4 c evaporated milk and stir until dissovled -bring to a boil and let cook about 5 min stirring occasionally, then add 3 ingredients below. Caramel and Peanut Layer. - Combine 1/4 cup evaporated milk, 1.5 Tablespoons butter, and pound of caramels in the (cleaned) small pot. - Heat on low, stirring frequently, until the caramels have melted into the milk and butter.

Caramel and Peanut Layer

Be careful not to burn the caramel - it can stick if you're not careful! (I toasted mine slightly, which turned out to be just fine. Check out the pics below to see how I created a thicker pot bottom.) - Allow to cool until it's not going to burn you. - Coarsely chop the 1.5 cup peanuts, and stir into the caramel. - Pour caramel/peanut mixture into your pan, and spread in an even layer. - Stick the pan back in the freezer to set. Note: I accidentally (don't ask) added the peanuts into the nougat layer, which is not the canonical Snickers format and breaks up the nougat's mouth feel. While you can do it as pictured, I recommend following my written instructions for better results. Sweet Heart Toast. Instead of a Valentine’s Dinner, how about a Valentine’s breakfast?

Sweet Heart Toast

Or brunch? Or breakfast for dinner? Here’s a simple idea that looks pretty on the plate. I took slices of regular whole-grain bread, cut them into heart shapes, made them into vegan French toast, and sandwiched a simple fruit mixture between them. Fresh strawberries are so romantic! Here’s how it’s done: Fruit-Stuffed French Toast (serves 4) Sliced whole-grain bread (about 8 slices) 1 cup Soymilk 1 Tbsp. Cut the bread into heart shapes, if desired. While the French toast is cooking, mix the strawberries, bananas, syrup, and coconut extract together. Since strawberries, like other berries, are high in antioxidants and phytonutrients, I decided to use this as my entry for Sweetnicks weekly event, Antioxidant-Rich Tuesdays (ARF/5-A-Day), that encourages us to eat our antioxidant-rich foods.
