How to Organise a Fashion Shoot in 5 Easy Steps. A Guest Post by Olivia Vitazkova from www.reverinephotography.com Recently I’ve been asked more and more about how I go about organising a photo-shoot. It was mainly asked by my new flatmates who were surprised at the constant influx of strange, good-looking people in our tiny kitchen. The place would get transformed into a showroom, with enough makeup and clothes to be suspected of robbing a department store. The flatmates would look at me with a mixture of suspicion and curiosity: „Where do you get these people? How do you organise a photo-shoot? “ So I explained and then I thought that some of my knowledge can be useful for new photographers, thinking of planning their first big fashion shoot. 1.

One of the most important things you need to consider is the theme or the concept of your photo-shoot. Despite this, I must confess that I rarely start organising a shoot with a precise theme or idea I have to execute. But sometimes I don’t even bother with that. 2. 3. 4. 5. Preparation. How to Harness the Power of Lightroom Print Collections. A Post By: Helen Bradley In a post last year I explained a process for exporting images from Lightroom ( sized and all ready for posting to a blog.

Since then I discovered a more robust solution to the problem of outputting images using a custom print layout from Lightroom. This can be used when printing images or saving them as jpeg files. The process of preparing and outputting images can be simplified by taking advantage of the Single Image/Contact Sheet Layout in Photoshop and combining this with a print collection. To do so, start out by selecting an image to use to configure your print layout and click to launch the Print module.

Set up this image so that it looks the way you want to print all images of this type. To print to a file, open the Print Job panel and from the Print to dropdown list select JPEG file. Adjust the image size and placement on the page using the Image Settings and Layout panel options. Sharing Your Photography On The Web. A Guest Post by Anne McKinnell Wading through the sea of options to get your photographs seen online Most of us start out in photography because we love to make images, it gets us outdoors, and helps us explore our creative selves.

We do it for ourselves because it makes us happy. But there is different side of photography that adds another dimension to the experience: sharing images with others. It’s one of the most popular things to do on the internet. We do it to share experiences with our families and friends, get feedback from other photographers, and attract customers or clients. There are three steps to making a big impression online: 1. So, you want to put all of your images online for everyone to see, right? Imagine you are looking at a photographer’s portfolio and they have hundreds of images. On the other hand, let’s say you look at a photographer’s work and they have 20 images all of which are black and white seascapes. Pick a theme to work on. 2. But … where to start? 3. Twitter. Use Lightroom Collections to Improve your Workflow. A Post By: Andrew S. Gibson The main benefit of Lightroom’s Library module is that it gives you the tools you need to get organised and speed up your workflow.

The end result is that you can spend more time in the Develop module – the place where you creatively process your photos. The best way to get organised is by using Collections and Collection Sets. There seem to be as many ways of using Collections as there are photographers. Why use Collections? You may be wondering why you should use Collections in Lightroom instead of the Folders panel. 1. The Collections panel is accessible from every module. 2. The contents of the Folders panel mirrors the file structure of your hard drive. However, the same file can be stored in as many Collections as you like. It’s a little like using Playlists in iTunes. Organise your images Hopefully you’re now beginning to see just how flexible and convenient Collections are. Other photographers’ methods Technique 1: Using multiple Collections Over to you. Find out what you can do and what you need to know about fisheye lenses. I am addicted to wide-angle photography, its creative challenges and opportunities. Wide-angle lenses require rethinking your composition constantly. Eliminating clutter with a normal lens usually entails leaving it out of your frame, thus simplifying your composition. I like this kind of photography. Telephoto lenses are creativity inhibitors. Sigma 8mm Looking for new ways to expand my creativity, I rented a Sigma 8mm lens and took it with me to San Francisco for the weekend. The Sigma 8mm EX DG Fisheye lens has a remarkable field of view that lets you capture very wide images.

Comparing the Fisheye to the already super-wide Tokina lens, you can begin to understand how wide the Sigma lens really is. I was excited to find out how this lens would feel in the city and how I could use its space warping properties to my advantage. Having fun. A Post By: Darren Rowse The way you frame and crop your shots has power to give a sense of size to a scene that may not actually be there. For example – the shot to the left of a field of tulips is framed in such a way that there is not beginning or end to the tulips anywhere inside the frame. While the field tulips may in fact end just beyond the edge of the frame in any direction – the feeling that this framing gives is that of a never ending sea of tulips. To get the effect the photographer has managed to get the angles right so that there’s no horizon and they’ve filled the frame with their subject.

To see the same principles illustrated again – check out the two following images. The same principles can be applied to numerous other situations. The boat is seemingly in the middle of an ocean – as there’s no end to the water in the frame. Again it is a combination of the angle that the photographer is shooting from (from slightly above) and the framing of the subject. The Sigma 8mm Fisheye Lens | Andre Gunther Photography. How a Lens' Focal Length Affects Distortion & Perspective. Knowledge Base. Focal length is a number that is vital to photography and photogrammetry but often misunderstood. What is focal length? A strict technical definition of focal length is difficult without providing a lot of background in lens theory, so we will use a simplification.

You can think of focal length as the distance between the imaging plane (e.g. the image chip in a digital camera) and a point where all light rays intersect inside the lens (the ‘optical center’). So a focal length of 20mm means that the distance from the optical center to the imaging plane is 20mm long (about ¾ of an inch). What does the focal length number mean? The focal length number tells us how much of the scene is captured in the picture. The lower the number the wider the view, and the more we can see. A camera typically has focal length in a range of 10mm to 500mm. Note: A technical photogrammetry term that you may come across is the “Principal Distance”.

Looking back I realize how incredibly fortunate I am to be able to do what I love every day. Here are 13 of my favorite images from 2013. While these aren’t necessarily my best, each of them takes me back to something special and about what it meant to get each particular shot. Whether that was how hard it was to get somewhere, what the conditions were like or who I was with when I got it, each one speaks to me and helps me remember why it is that I love this work. A Post By: Annie Tao Lifestyle Photography has been around for as long as there were cameras, but it was called Photojournalism and was mostly seen only in the newspapers. During those times, most Portrait Photographers captured their subjects posed and “perfect”. Once DSLRs infiltrated the market at lower price points, everyone and their grandmas (okay, maybe not all grandmas) had one. Digital photography allowed the birth of this new form of portraiture – Lifestyle Photography – by allowing people to shoot freely without the worry of film and film development costs.

Now with smart phones and other electronics that piggyback a convenient camera, snapping photos about your life has become mainstream. True Lifestyle Photography, however, is more than taking candid shots. It is about capturing images that reveal a story. 1. Don’t wait to take the shot until you see something happening because some things last only one second and you can miss it. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7.

Using Emotion In Your Photography Branding. Using Emotion In Your Photography Branding Does your brand evoke an emotion for your client? The Coca Cola symbol does and so does McDonald’s golden arches–just show those arches to your kids and see what happens. When a brand’s experience emotionally charges someone, they are now buying with an element of emotion instead of just logic and so they are often willing to spend more. So, how do you take advantage of this as a photographer? First, it is important that you realize the many different types of emotions that you can tie into a brand.

And while a brand is a symbol that represents not only your style of photography but the whole experience your client will receive with you–from your personality, to your marketing materials, to your delivery time–new clients coming to your site will not be able to completely grasp your entire brand’s concept until they have been through the entire experience with you.
