Read It and Weep - 16 Repurposed and Recycled Books. Okay, just shoot me now and put me out of my misery! Will I never achieve such creative genius as this? Time to read it and weep...not the ugly cry - it's a happy sob (sigh)! Oh what some people can do with a recycled book or two. Like this painting on a wall of books! A wall of books! This work is a jaw-dropping WOW for me! There are other repurposed book finds that have also caught my attention lately. Marcy Bates with Recycled Reads (also on Etsy) used to own a book store - which may be where she fine-tuned her skills of turning books into typographical works of art.

I'm a huge fan of using book pages for art and illustration - and one of my favorite in this genre is Carambatack Design out of Norway. This is definitely something I would carry! You might remember these perfect little repurposed book shelves that I featured in the Repurposed DIY for Everyone post. Favorite places? You really must see the work of Littlefly to believe it. Now I leave you with this thought. Stumble this post. Karen’s portable fire pit. I greatly admire Karen’s penchant for discount shopping; it’s particularly awesome when she shares her results with the rest of us. We’ve posted her tutorials before, but this fire pit might be my favorite. And it couldn’t come at a better time — the leaves are falling outside my window and I am desperate to make a cup of something warm, sit outside and savor the late sunsets while they last.

She crafted this beauty from such simple materials as a planter, cheap frames and a can of gel fuel. One trip to the hardware store and you’re set! The simple modern shape and neutral rocks make this budget-friendly fire pit look totally luxe. I cannot wait to make my own and throw a mulled cider party to welcome the chill. I know a lot of people find valentine’s day to be a commercialized, over-hyped, pressure-cooker of a holiday (um, take it easy with the chocolate aisles, drug stores). in my mind though, valentine’s day is great because such little things can make huge statements on this romantic day. pretty much any act of kindness carries with it a bigger message of love: a note on the counter, an extra long hug, a favorite food in the fridge, etc. so with the “little gifts” concept in mind, i bring you this valentine’s day light bulb. a subtle love note tucked inside a pretty glass bulb, this can hopefully be displayed year round, and have longer lasting power than a dozen roses (not that i’m knocking roses). the other awesome part of this project is that once you’ve hollowed out a light bulb, the possibilities are endless for future projects: mini terrarium?

You can’t get much more mundane than a paperclip! After much thought, I came up with paperclip earrings. If you have paperclips and some pretty cotton string, you can create these beauties. They’d probably look pretty cool as a necklace too. Here is a diagram to show you where to open the paperclip to create this triangular shape. You are basically unbending the clip at all three of the curves. Once you’ve got the triangular shape, you need to glue the ends together.

Fig 1: Winding the string around // Fig 2: Starting to wrap the string around the earring, secured with Liquid Stitch Once you’ve wound all the way round and secured with glue, you can then take another length of string and wind around the width of the “earring” creating horizontal stripes or you can create a more messy look by creating a “net” design (see below).

Then just clamp on a pair of earring hooks. Categories: Art, DIY, Fashion. DIY Soda Can Coasters. Well, Summer is in full swing here now. Kids are home all day and we are enjoying the more relaxed schedules. I am heading out tomorrow to attend the annual MDA Summer Camp I have been involved with for several years. I shared a little bit of my experience with the camp last year here. I have been a volunteer camp counselor (group leader) over a group of kids with Muscular Dystrophy and their volunteer helpers. But today I have a new little project for those of you who drink your beverages out of a can or know someone who does. Yes…that is my favorite drink of choice…that I no longer drink…Boo! Simply empty out some cans of your choice and rinse them out with water. Then I took some Silicone and put a good amount on the back of the square.

Then I set a paper towel on the top of it and laid a pile of books on it and let them dry over night! Then simply place some felt pads on the bottom of the coasters to protect your table top from getting scratched! Aren’t they fun? What do you think? Chandelier From Paper Clips. Speaking of lights made from wire, here’s a chandelier made out of paper clips. Pretty cool idea! Looks like ReDesign Technologies “deconstructed [a] cast-off lamp shade” and used the round wire circles from that as the structural elements of the chandelier. Then they forms a patterned design with the paper clips and used them as a kind of chain mail between the circles.

Hang a light bulb down the center, and voila! I am continually fascinated by how lamps and chandeliers can be made from almost anything. $185 on Etsy. COLD FORGING A KNIFE FROM A NAIL. Every Crafty Endeavor: Glazed Washer Necklaces Tutorial. First: Gather your supplies. You will need: Metal Washers (I used 1.5 inch ones) Scrapbook paperE-6000 Exacto KnifeFilePour-On High Gloss FinishPlastic Cup and SpoonChain for your necklace Second: Glue your washers to the back of your scrapbook paper.

Third: When the glue is dry, cut out your washers with your exacto knife. Fourth: File down the edges to get a complete circle. They also look much nicer when you do this. Here are mine all glued and sanded and ready for gloss. I use EnviroTex Lite Pour-On. Fifth: Add even amounts of hardener and shine from both bottles and mix well in a plastic cup.

When I say "Mix Well" I mean mix your little heart out for 2 minutes without stopping. The mixture will be a frothy white with TONS of bubbles - It's okay! If you don't mix well, the gloss will NEVER harden. Sixth: Scoop out a little bit with your spoon and evenly make a circle with the glaze over the top of your washer. Seventh: You will notice little bubbles forming on the top of the glaze, SugarBlog - Not a $168 necklace! Do. It. Yourself. Duh!!! A few weeks back I was trolling through one of my most favorite women's collections. This particular line has clothing, accessories and home designs. The first spot I normally go is jewelry... not because I'm a huge jewelry fan but because this store employs the most amazing jewelry designers... quite pricey but amazing.

This one caught my eye.... It is called the Acrobatics Necklace... It is $168.00 american dollars.... As I looked closely I could tell this would be an easy make. I started out taking step by step pictures and then realized video would be easier. You will need: a box of large paper clips, colored duck tape, scissors, an exact-o blade, cloth measuring tape, "spring ring & eyelet" jewelry hooks and a picture of the necklace. I'm not sure what type of "brightly hued sheaths" (hee hee) they used but lucky for us Duck Tape started making lots of fun colors... not just grey anymore! First off, I want to say thank you to all of you who rated our project online today!

Wow!!!! You guys are really helping us out!!!! Thanks so much!!!!! Now for my latest project! I’ve mentioned that early Christmas decorating is a family tradition going way back! We have always put the trees up right after Halloween and it feels right to me! I had to start from scratch this year because ALL of our ornaments were strewn across Hwy 114 on moving day (note to self ~ do not put a lightweight rubbermaid container in the bed of a truck). Here is the first of the replacements! I’m sure you all have these! Pair it with a bunch of cream colored buttons and a hot glue gun! Cut 6 long and 6 shorter pieces using a pair of wire cutters and hot glue each piece around a large button alternating sizes. more hot glue…. and sandwich the wires with another large button.

Glue the buttons to each wire creating a pattern… and flip! Now for the hangin’ and coil up to the tip of the wire. Resistors « What. No Mints? Though I’ve only ever worked with or seen them a handful of times in my life, I’ve always thought resistors were one of the more interesting and attractive of the electronic parts. They’re small, curvy and come in some of the neatest color combinations. It seems that Eva also has a fondness for these little components – As she fashions them into intricately unique and pretty pieces of jewelry, such as this Climbing Ladders Necklace.
