Hack Used To Control Lights, Curtains And Fan Using Siri (Video) As we mentioned yesterday, hacks using Siri Proxy has caught the fancy of many developers as we continue to see developers creating cool plugins for Siri Proxy.

Another developer with YouTube handle phildman14 has created a custom Siri Proxy plugin, which allows him to control devices in his room. As you can see in the video below, the developer has figured out a way to create a plugin that can pull the curtains, control the lights in a room, turning on the fan and turning off the desk lamp using Siri. All of this has been possible thanks to SiriProxy created by Pete Lamonica that allows developers to create custom plugins that can intercept voice commands and perform any action that is programmable, scriptable etc.

Developers have created custom plugins so that they can give voice commands to control their car or thermostat or play movies and TV shows with Plex or use Google Voice or control Mac apps using Siri or control Spotify. Thanks Phil for the tip! [via. Lutron Home Control+ How to Automate Your House With Your iPhone. The iPhone’s ability to connect to wireless systems via Wifi and/or Bluetooth opens up a wide range of potential devices that the iPhone can control. This functionality isn’t limited to your television or stereo but expands over a variety of electronic equipment in your home. Today we’ll take a brief look at ten iPhone applications that are built to control elements of a home automation system. Examples include everything from video cameras and security systems to lighting rigs and automatic blinds. What will you control? Read Before You Buy The big disclaimer that you should be aware of before buying any of these apps is that almost all of them require extra hardware of some sort.

Some require a generic device that creates an IP address for a wall socket, thereby allowing you to control whatever is plugged in, while others require very specific home automation systems. Recently I started to look into ways to make my home a “smart home.” I’ve been wanting to do it for awhile, but had never taken the time to research how easy or complex it was. For some odd reason I had it set in my mind that it would require a lot of additional wiring in my house to get it done, but boy was I wrong. I started at the SmartHome.com site where they have a large array of devices that were suited for exactly what I was looking to do. Over the past two months I’ve been toying with setting everything up, ordering more, and in general just having a lot of fun watching everything come together. Below I’ve outlined my journey so that you can hopefully learn from some of my mistakes, and share some of your own tips if you’ve set up this stuff before. –Briefly How it Works– There’s not really anything special you need to do for the devices to communicate across your power lines, which is why this is so nice.

–Starting out — –Geekification– Where did I go next? (Click to Enlarge) Control home automation and security using x10. The results I wanted were: - a method of controlling various lights and appliances in my home that did not have switches or wiring due to my home being so old. - a wireless security system that is safe but easy to install and can call out with a recorded message to inform me or intruders. Actual areas needing a solution: Wireless Security System A wireless system that detects if doors or windows are opened or any movement occurs within the secured area.

Modules needed: - Security Kit (windows sensors, door sensors, horn modules, arm/disarm remotes, security console with call out function, motion detectors, lamp modules) Wireless Motion detector A wireless motion detecting system for the front and side of my house that would detect motion from any direction and turn on various lights in the front and side of the house.

. - x10 ActiveEye motion detectors for each direction you want to detect movement. - Security Console - 3 way wall switch. Various x10 lighting and appliance control. Remote Home Automation. I've wanted to post this project for about 3 years now but never could find the time. Oh well needs must as the devil drives as they say and it's here for you now. I hope it comes across clear, if not let me know and I'll fix it. With that said: Home Automation systems are cool. Back in 2007 and 2008 I made a Home Automation System as a part of my senior design project, and to automate some of the tasks that I come across in my daily life. If you have any questions, comments, criticisms feel free to let me know this is my first instructable. I mean this instructable to illustrate many BUILDING BLOCKS that can be used in your home automation system. This will also be my entry into the 3rd Epilog challenge, as well as the Makerbot Challenge I wish I had another month to update the info because there is a lot more, but I hope you like it as is.
