Raised Salt Painting ~ Housing A ForestHousing a Forest. Watercolors are such a versatile medium and I LOVE them. This time we used the liquid watercolors which I think is a bit easier for this project, but the cake variety work as well. For salt painting you will need table salt, white glue, watercolors and thick paper (I used watercolor paper because it was what we had on hand, but I have used mat board and even cardboard works well). Family Fun magazine is wonderful and has so many amazing ideas, including this one. Have the kids squeeze a design that they like onto the board with white glue.

Simple shapes, and designs seem to work the best for this project. Now let the magic begin! Once the glue is completely dry, your painting will sparkle beautifully. This one is still wet. After the project dries over night, it should look similar to this. Build a Felt Cupcake. Feb03 by Rachel Meeks Kids can build and decorate their own felt cupcakes. Make several and when you’re done, you have all the ingredients for more quiet playtime. It’s so small and portable, I’m going to take these cupcakes with us to keep my four-year-old daughter busy on an international flight this weekend. The only supplies required are felt and scissors. Don’t sew or glue them together, and they can be put together again in several ways.

Paper Plate Dinosaur Craft for Kids with Free Templates. This is a guest post for Learn with Play at Home written by the lovely Kate from The Craft Train. For more of their awesome ideas, be sure to check out their site. Enjoy, Debs :) 5 Paper Plate-a-sauruses with templates Here’s an activity for all the dinosaur-loving kids out there. These paper plate-a-sauruses are based on the real species and all feature a colourful paper plate body with a paper cut-out head, legs and tail. They can help kids learn the real names of the dinosaurs and also have a fun, messy art and craft element to them. You will need: • Paper plates • Coloured heavy paper stock • Scissors and a hole punch (or googly eyes if you prefer) • Items to decorate your paper plates with.

How to: Cut some paper plates in half and decorate them. My kids loved stamping patterns with these sponge stamps, made by cutting simple shapes from a kitchen sponge. Most of the templates work best by painting the back of the paper plate, but for the Pterodactyl the front side works best. Templates. Seven Flowers. Awesome Pop Up - Video - StumbleUpon.

Tutorial: Homemade Sidewalk Chalk | oh my! handmade goodness - StumbleUpon. By Michelle Vackar, Modern Handmade Child One of our favorite outside activities at our home is drawing with chalk on the driveway. You can play hopscotch, four-square, and of course draw and create silly stories. My daughters and I were talking one day as we played hopscotch about how to make chalk and I thought to myself, let’s try it! It ended up being quite a lot of fun. What you will need: • Toilet paper or paper towel tubes • Scissors • Duct tape • Wax paper • Small bucket or disposable container to make the recipe • ¾ cup of warm water • 1 ½ cups Plaster of Paris • 2-3 tablespoons of tempera paint • Paper bag or a “mess mat” ** we made six tubes of chalk – we simply doubled the above recipe.

Step 1: If you are using paper towel tubes, cut each tube in half, so it is roughly the length of a toilet paper roll tube. Step 2: Cover one end of each tube with duct table to hold the contents within. Step 3: Cut as many pieces of wax paper as you have tubes.
