Instead of having regular pimples, you may have a condition called pityrosporum folliculitis, also known as malassezia folliculitis. Pitysporum folliculitis must be treated differently than everyday acne in order to heal up and disappear. Pityrosporum folliculitis is different from regular acne (also known as acne vulgaris) in that it usually looks bright red and is itchy and painful to the touch. It is often most itchy after exercise or other sweaty activity, or after showering in hot water.
