Keeping track of the vulnerable with EGNOS 26 February 2010 Liveline, an online tracking service for vulnerable people such as the elderly and children, under development by Dutch start-up company bliin using EGNOS data, will be demonstrated at the Galileo Application Days that will take place 3–5 March in Brussels. The service can be used to inform a close circle of authorised people, typically family and caregivers, where a vulnerable person is at all times.

An early version, based on bliin’s existing social network technology, will be demonstrated to the public during the Galileo Application Days. “Our goal is to produce a secure application that can be licensed as a product to smaller communities, so they can be aware at all times of the location of the vulnerable people under their responsibility,” says Stef Kolman, founder and Vice-President of bliin BV.

Mind Games. It’s here: a headset that allows computers to read your thoughts—so you can control machines with your mind. By Amar Patel and Brian Gill HOW’S THIS FOR a big word of the day? Electroencephalography. Before our proofreader has a heart attack, let’s shorten that to its acronym, EEG. EEG refers to the recording of the brain’s electrical activity. It’s been around for some time, and usually involves placing a maze of sensors around a person’s head, often for neuroscience research, and usually in a lab. But here’s what hasn’t been around for a while: it seems that one company, neuro-engineering firm Emotiv, has managed to take EEG technology into the realm of handy everyday device via a “neuro headset” that translates that brain activity into computer commands. Put differently, the headset, called the EPOC, allows the wearer to control machinery simply by thinking about, or feeling emotionally about, what he or she wants those machines to do.

Whoa. The result, the EPOC, is a work of wonder. THE TECHNIUM AND THE 7TH KINGDOM OF LIFE. [KEVIN KELLY:] The main question that I'm asking myself is, what is the meaning of technology in our lives? What place does technology have in the universe? What place does it have in the human condition? And what place should it play in my own personal life? Technology as a whole system, or what I call the technium, seems to be a dominant force in the culture. Indeed at times it seems to be the only force - the only lasting force - in culture. If that's so, then what can we expect from this force, what governs it? I'm trying to investigate ways to understand the long-term consequences of technology in the world and place it into some position along with other grand things like biological nature, big history, the physics of the cosmos, and the future.

There's no predictive theory of technology either. One of the reflex responses to technology's problems is prohibition. But even with all this, we still don't have a good sense of what technology is or how we should define it. Dream Machine 2010. Dream Machine 2010 was an exercise in PC building, overclocking, cooling—and patience So, the desktop PC will become nothing more than a truck? Well, here’s your Mack truck, Mr. Jobs, filling your rear-view mirror on Interstate 80 as you try to get that tablet-sized, Flash-less-powered toy out of the fast lane. Oops, sorry about running you over.

Our take? The Power Cube: Three turned out to be the magic number for this year's Dream: three GPUs, three radiators, three grills--even the 12 cores (and 24 threads) are divisible by three. At the onset of our Dream Machine project, we were concerned. 24 threads. The simple paint job and tough-looking grills and fans on this year’s system complete the theme. So let’s say you have a pile of real media video that was recorded sometime earlier in the decade when real video was still relevant, but you realize any sane person these days doesn’t have RealPlayer installed and can’t view it. What you really want is that video to exist in an mp4 so you can stream it to a flash player, or eventually use <video> in html5 (once they work that codec stuff out).

Thankfully, there is a better way, and I will lay it out for you. Queue everything up and let it rip. Neural Network Forums. Everything under control with the official One For All homepage. Technical Analysis with Neural Networks. Neural Networks. Abstract This report is an introduction to Artificial Neural Networks. The various types of neural networks are explained and demonstrated, applications of neural networks like ANNs in medicine are described, and a detailed historical background is provided.

The connection between the artificial and the real thing is also investigated and explained. Finally, the mathematical models involved are presented and demonstrated.
