Women 2.0 - Founding Startups » How To Make a Simple Facebook App in 20 Minutes

By Anna Billstrom (Developer, Momentus Media) Facebook apps can be as complicated as Frontierville, or as simple as a Facebook app that simply announces to all your Facebook friends, “I’m pregnant!” Last weekend, a dozen SF-WOW attendees built from scratch a Facebook app to announce a pregnancy to their friends. The workshop is based on a blog post I wrote: Making a Simple Facebook App in 20 Minutes . http://www.women2.org/making-a-simple-facebook-app-in-20-minutes-anna-billstrom/

Women now play games more than men, according to a report by mobile app analytics provider Flurry. At least that’s true in the realm of mobile and mobile social games, where the likes of Zynga’s FarmVille and Popcap’s Plants vs. Zombies are at the forefront. More than half of all mobile and mobile social gamers — 53 percent, to be exact — are women, bucking the stereotype that gaming is typically a male-dominated form of entertainment, according to the report. Only 40 percent of “traditional” gamers are women, according to the report.

Women 2.0 - Founding Startups » Step-by-step guide: starting your web company

http://www.women2.org/step-by-step-guide-starting-your-web-company-by-elizabeth-yin/ By Elizabeth Yin (Co-Founder, LaunchBit) Every aspiring entrepreneur has to start somewhere. Yet when you decide to start a company, there’s no guidebook to tell you what to do next. People might argue that “real” entrepreneurs need no such book, but a few years ago, I had wasted two years floundering and $20k of my savings on my failed startup — I could have benefited from such a guidebook. So my best friend Jennifer Chin and I compiled the LaunchBit Startup Guide , which I wish I had had several years ago. This guide is for new aspiring web entrepreneurs to learn to validate your business idea and build early versions of your first web prototype without coding.

Women 2.0 - Founding Startups » MarketYoYo Emerges from Women 2.0 Startup Weekend Pursuing the mWomen BOP App Challenge

On November 21, 2010, MarketYoYo (formerly named Crowdmarket) was awarded “Most Likely to Change a Million Lives” and “2nd Prize Overall” at Women 2.0 Startup Weekend . Two days later, Alexis Ringwald (pictured, left) and Xuwen Zhang expanded their team to five (Rajat Mahajan, Ran Tao and myself) to further build on the idea of an SMS service to enable BOP (Base of the Pyramid) female entrepreneurs to connect directly with buyers. I was really excited to be a part of the team and loved the way all five of us were able to rally around a cause just after our first meeting at a coffee shop. With very little time but a lot of talent, inspiration, and passion, we decided to pursue the mWomen BOP App Challenge . A week after initial market research, brainstorming and coding, the idea turned more real after we had conversations with Grameen Phone CEO Kazi Islam, Obopay CEO Carol Realini and VP of Product Marketing David Schwartz.
