The suspicious object was discovered following a tip relayed to Montreal police in connection with Lin’s death. However, police are giving few details about how they received the tip or who is behind it. “(Police) have made no secret about the fact that finding the remains of Jun Lin was a very big priority for them,” CTV’s Montreal Bureau Chief Genevieve Beauchemin told CTV News Channel on Monday. The legal counsel of Luka Rocco Magnotta was widely expected to request a psychiatric evaluation of their client on Thursday as his initial defence lawyer suggested the possibility earlier this week.
Although his defence team ultimately decided against, his lawyers could still build their case on Magnotta's state of mind during the crimes he's alleged to have committed. It's also possible that Magnotta, who has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder, could be found fit to stand trial, only to have his defence successfully argue he is not-criminally responsible.
