Mapping NYC’s startup scene
Where can you find the highest concentration of startups in New York? The twenty blocks between 14th and 34th Streets is a good place to start. The New York Times mapped out the offices of the Big Apple’s hottest startups, color-coding the companies by industry. The 400 companies represented on the map all received investor funding in the last two years and, with the exception of a handful calling Brooklyn HQ, nearly all set up shop in the heart of Manhattan. ResearchGate
ResearchGate is a social networking site for scientists and researchers to share papers, ask and answer questions, and find collaborators. [ 1 ] The site has been described as a mash-up of “ Facebook , Twitter and LinkedIn ” that includes “profile pages, comments, groups, job listings, and ‘like’ and ‘follow’ buttons”. [ 1 ] Members are encouraged to share raw data and failed experiment results as well as successes, in order to avoid repeating their peers’ scientific research mistakes. [ 2 ] ResearchGate members receive automatic alerts for new publications authored by their contacts, a feature it shares with other social networks for scientists such as AIP's UniPHY , Elsevier's BiomedExperts and Google Scholar . [ edit ] Company ResearchGate was co-founded in 2008 by Ijad Madisch in Boston. The company is now based in Berlin [ 1 ] and has offices in Cambridge, Mass. [ 3 ]
