Boarding a moving train: The way to speed up rail travel? - CNN.com

http://www.cnn.com/2011/11/24/tech/innovation/moving-platforms/index.html The 'Moving Platforms' concept envisions city-wide tram networks that are integrated with a high-speed rail service. When a tram runs next to a high-speed train, the tram speeds up and train slows down. The moving tram "docks" with the moving train, allowing passengers to cross between tram and train without either vehicle stopping. London (CNN) -- A designer has come up with a unique and futuristic solution for speeding up rail travel: he doesn't want to change the engines, or the tracks -- he wants to get rid of the stations.

3 Tiered Rail System for America The complete sustainable transportation system for America - a 3-tiered, integrated rail network. The backbone of the network is the HSR system, connected to the regional and local rail systems in a seamless network.
"When she has finished building in 2012 what she began only in 2004, China will have more high-speed rail lines than the rest of the world put together. It goes without saying that China's 42 dedicated near-arrow-straight, near-perfectly-level lines, with their 8,000 miles of 220-mph-capable track (half of it alreay built, and at a total predicted cost of nearly $400 billion), shame into insignificance America's achievements and aims, where the fastest train reaches only 125 mph, and that only on short stretches of track near Baltimore, and where the total length of planned, but thus far unbuilt, high-speed-capable rail is a laughable 563 miles." http://www.ushsr.com/
