Ultra Training

Marathon_ultra. The ultra will join up with the main half/full event in Dingle town. Once the ultra merges with the main event, normal marathon conditions will be in place. (see 'full marathon' for further details) Ultra runners must wear 'Hi Vis' clothing, this is compulsory. A strict cut off time of 11 hours is in place. Drop bins will be provided at the start of the race before we board the bus. A staff motorbike, civil defence vehicle and ambulance will accompany the runners throughout. No switch back exists (as opposed to the switch back on mile 46 in the 2010 event) Start time is set for 7am sharp.

Meeting time is set for 5.30am sharp at the Pobal Scoil. Chip timing is in place. The course is officially measured by the athletics association of Ireland. The course map and elevation is available through this link: Lalegion101. {*style: *} {*style: *} The Art O’Neill Challenge – 11th January 2013 | Northface John. The Art O’Neil challenge, will be held on Friday 11th January 2013, with registration opening on the 20th October. Check the official Art O’Neill website at The Art O’Neill Challenge to register. There are three ways of participating in the challenge – you can walk it; you can run the road section and walk the mountain section; or, like I’m planning to do, you can run the entire distance. The starting times differ for each option. The walk starts on Friday 11th January at Midnight; the Hybrid, run and walk, begins at 1:30 am; and the Ultra starts at 2:00 am.NB: These times may change, so check with the organisers closer to the time.

The option that I’m interest in is the Ultra-marathon. The Ultra will begin at 2:00 am on Saturday morning (January 12th). The Ultra starts right in the center of Ireland’s capital city, at Dublin Castle, and finishes in Glenmalure Valley, in the beautiful Wicklow mountains. Here is my 12 week training plan.
