Knowledge Ecology International (KEI) has obtained from Wikileaks a complete copy of the consolidated negotiating text for the IP Chapter of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP). (Copy here, and on the Wikileaks site here: The leaked text was distributed among the Chief Negotiators by the USTR after the 19th Round of Negotiations at Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei, in August 27th, 2013. There have been two rounds since Brunei, and the latest version of the text, from October, will be discussed in Salt Lake City next week.

The text released by Wikileaks is 95 pages long, with 296 footnotes and 941 brackets in the text, and includes details on the positions taken by individual countries. An enduring mystery is the appalling acceptance of the secrecy by the working news media. Access to Medicines Copyright. Wikileaks’ Release Of TPP Chapter On IP Blows Open Secret Trade Negotiation | Intellectual Property Watch - Iceweasel. For years, the United States and partner governments have worked vigorously to keep the publics they represent from knowing what they are negotiating behind closed doors in the top-secret Trans-Pacific Partnership trade agreement. But today’s Wikileaks release of the draft intellectual property chapter blew that up, confirming the fears of public interest groups that this is an agreement heavily weighted toward big industry interests.

“If instituted, the TPP’s IP regime would trample over individual rights and free expression, as well as ride roughshod over the intellectual and creative commons,” WikiLeaks’ Editor-in-Chief Julian Assange said in a release. “If you read, write, publish, think, listen, dance, sing or invent; if you farm or consume food; if you’re ill now or might one day be ill, the TPP has you in its crosshairs.”

In a live broadcast today [at minute 25], Assange said, “I think this release is going to pretty much kill it,” referring to the TPP. The Text Extreme Secrecy. The TPP is a Trojan Horse. The Origins and Evolution of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) The agreement being negotiated by the US-led 12-nation regional trade bloc known as the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) has engendered much controversy. Its origins can be traced to a little-known four-party free trade agreement concluded in 2005 by New Zealand, Chile, Singapore and Brunei.

It was US participation and its subsequent hegemonic role in the later negotiations of this group (collectively known as the Pacific Four or P-4) that resulted not only in an expansion of its membership but also in the setting of an agenda for what critics charge is a ‘corporate charter’. THE free trade agreement being negotiated by the regional bloc known as the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) has provoked widespread opposition in the countries involved in its negotiation. Today the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPPA) is rightly perceived and condemned as a US-led attempt to penetrate and dominate the economies of the region. The U.S. is negotiating two huge problematic trade agreements -- one with Europe (TTIP), and another with countries around the Pacific (TTP).

Both dramatically extend the NAFTA model. First, I am 100 percent in favor of trade. Everyone I know wants good trade policies that raise living standards around the world. Equally, I oppose bad trade policies that weaken civil society and harm communities. In simple terms, trade agreements are about trade -- exports and imports. These trade agreements regulate countries in the same way that our Constitution regulates Congress, our courts, the president, and our state governments.

Our Constitution grants extensive political rights and social protections to people and communities. In contrast, trade agreements look like a corporate Bill of Rights, full of protections for investors and global corporations, enforced by special courts or tribunals. Trade tribunals seek maximum possible trade and maximum opportunities for investors. Really? Flurry Of TPP Negotiating Meetings Underway.
