Amanda Fraass, 18, of South Amboy, N.J., had just become one of the lucky ones: After a long, anxiety-filled wait, she had received a highly coveted wristband that would allow her access to an appearance by the stars of “The Hunger Games” at a Barnes & Noble in Union Square in Manhattan. Like hundreds of others, Ms. Fraass, a high school senior, had stood on the street for hours, in the hope of getting a glimpse of someone, anyone, associated with the film.

The Hunger Games film won't be released until March 23, 2012, but that hasn't stopped the Internet from creating a trove of awesome memes that poke fun at the popular series. They range from rage comics to the newly spawned "Advice Peeta." Lionsgate has been using social media to interact with Hunger Games fans online.

With " The Hunger Games " arriving in theaters this weekend and expected to blow up the box office, early reviews have been very positive and anticipation has been running high. Our own review called it "an engaging, thoughtful, populist piece of entertainment that transcends gender, genre or source material." But not everyone in The Playlist camp felt the same.
