En Europe En Belgique , le gouvernement a publié fin 2007 un guide intitulé « Clés pour … introduire le télétravail Télétravail Le télétravail, sous sa forme salariée, décrit tout travail s’effectuant à distance, en dehors de l’entreprise, à l’aide de technologies de l’information et de la communication, et sans contrôle hiérarchique physique. On parle également de télétravail pour décrire le travail mobile (également appelé travail nomade ou itinérant) où le salarié exerce depuis n’importe quel lieu distant de l’entreprise (chez un client, dans un moyen de transport, …) sans que ce lieu ne soit forcément unique. Le télétravail, sous sa forme indépendante, décrit une relation exercée à distance du client ou du donneur d’ordre, toujours via l’utilisation de technologies de l’information et de la communication, et l’impossibilité physique, pour ce dernier, de contrôler l’exécution du travail. La référence contractuelle est ici le contrat de service.
Le télétravail en Europe et ailleurs
La Confédération européenne des syndicats (CES), l'Union des confédérations de l'industrie et des employeurs d'Europe / Union européenne de l'artisanat et des petites et moyennes entreprises (UNICE/UEAPME) et le Centre européen des entreprises à participation publique (CEEP) ont signé un accord-cadre sur le télétravail visant à procurer plus de sécurité aux télétravailleurs salariés dans l'UE. Cet accord revêt une importance particulière, car il s'agit du premier accord européen mis en œuvre par les partenaires sociaux eux-mêmes. L'accord a pour objet d'établir un cadre général à l'échelon européen pour les conditions de travail des télétravailleurs et de concilier les besoins de flexibilité et sécurité communs aux employeurs et aux travailleurs. Il accorde à ceux-ci la même protection globale qu'aux travailleurs qui exercent leurs activités dans les locaux de l'entreprise.

Despite a new law allowing federal employees to work from home or other sites outside the office, about a dozen telework sites across the Washington region are losing federal funding. The reason? Only about 300 federal workers -- less than one tenth of one percent of those working in the Washington area -- use the "telecenters" in Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia, according to the General Services Administration . The agency provided about $3 million annually to help fund the sites -- or about $10,000 per user. "Today telework has become less about where work gets done and more about how work gets done," GSA said in a statement.

Keeping track of telework is about to get a lot easier for telework managing officers (TMOs) - and a lot more valuable. The U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) has worked with the Federal Shared Service Centers to automate the collection of telework data via the Enterprise Human Resources Integration (EHRI) HR and Payroll data feeds. OPM will begin piloting the automated method this fall, with an eye on mandating government-wide participation next year when agencies collect data for the 2014 Telework Report to Congress. Fuze Takes Meetings To iPad When it comes to communicating, business professionals around the world are taking advantage of all the tools at their disposal -- including continued reliance on decades-old technologies such as desk phones and email, a new study by Plantronics finds. To be sure, professionals also are tapping newer tools like instant messaging, social media , audio, and web conferencing, according to the report, "How We Work: Communication Trends of Business Professionals." In fact, 64% of those surveyed used instant messaging; 61% tapped social media; 58% texted; and 54% spoke via video conference. In addition, 69% participated in audio conferences and 67% joined a web conference, the report said.

Telecommuting , remote work , [ 1 ] or telework is a work arrangement in which employees do not commute to a central place of work. A person who telecommutes is known as a "telecommuter", "teleworker", and sometimes as a "home-sourced" employee. Many telecommuters work from home, while others, sometimes called "nomad workers", use mobile telecommunications technology to work from coffee shops or other locations. According to a Reuters poll, approximately "one in five workers around the globe, particularly employees in the Middle East, Latin America and Asia, telecommute frequently and nearly 10 percent work from home every day".
