How we read, not what we read, may be contributing to our information overload

It’s the natural result of living in a time when an ever-increasing number of news providers push a constant stream of headlines at us every day. But what if it’s the ways we choose to read the news — not the glut of news providers — that make us feel overwhelmed? An interesting new study out of the University of Texas looks at the factors that contribute to the concept of information overload, and found that, for some people, the platform on which news is being consumed can make all the difference between whether you feel overwhelmed. The study, “News and the Overloaded Consumer: Factors Influencing Information Overload Among News Consumers” was conducted by Avery Holton and Iris Chyi.

By Sarah Clark • nfcworld.com • Published November 26th, 2012 • Last updated 26 November 2012, 12:39 The NFC World team has identified ten pressure points that suggest the arrival of mobile payments will result in a fundamental change in the overall cost of processing payments and the way in which merchants transaction fees are calculated — and we’d like to hear from anyone who is working on ways to use mobile technology to cut the cost of processing transactions at the point of sale.

“Mobile Wallet Adoption Drivers: Merchant Transaction Fees” is a new report that the NFC World team is working on for subscribers to The Mobile Wallet Report. So far, we have identified ten separate pressure points that, together, suggest that the arrival of mobile payments is set to significantly reduce the fees merchants have to pay to process transactions at the point of sale. The list of pressure points we have identified to date, and the questions we are looking to answer, are: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. To date, this has been limited to a small proportion of M2M applications although the potential is there for them to be employed in a wider range of devices. This includes consumer electronics devices as well as mobile phones; however, for this to occur there needs to be a shift in MNO strategies and business practices. Free Mobile application has been accepted by French regulatory authority ARCEP on 17 December 2009.[1] The license price is 240 million euros [2] for two 5 MHz bands in the 2100 MHz and 900 MHz frequency bands. Roaming agreement[edit] Free Mobile signed a 2G and 3G roaming agreement with Orange on March 3, 2011.[3] 100% of the 2G traffic will go through Orange's network as Free Mobile has no 2G license. Network deployment[edit] Free Mobile has for legal obligation to cover 27% of the French population by January 2012, 75% by January 2015 and 90% by January 2018.

Free Mobile was already covering 30% of the French population in November 2011.[4] An agreement with Orange enables communications channeled through Orange's network, which covers about 98% [5] of the French metropolitan population according to ARCEP.
