So let me establish who I am. I have been gaming since 1970-something when my Father brought home a blue box Dungeons and Dragons basic set. I was instantly and irrevocably hooked. http://deathinches.wordpress.com/2010/06/29/bona-fides/

Bona Fides | Death by Inches

Stopped by the Something Awful site for the first time in ages and randomly noticed they had one of their WTF, D&D! articles on White Plume Mountain ! Might not be to all tastes, but a bit of an insight into the module nonetheless! Plus an omen maybe..? Finally moved in, and just managed to get computer up and running before the World Cup Final started. http://wyrind.blogspot.com/2010/07/somethingawful-white-plume-mountain.html

SomethingAwful : White Plume Mountain

http://dave.monkeymartian.com/?tag=old-school As part of my ongoing celebration of Dragon Magazine’s 35th anniversary, I present the next instalment of covers, from issue 201 to 300. These images represent quite a roller coaster ride through the ups and downs of Dungeons and Dragons. They bear witness to the development of the greatest settings the game has ever seen, the excesses and eventual decline of 2e, the demise of TSR, and the rebirth of the game in 3e under the ownership of Wizards of the Coast. Even though I had shifted to other games (namely Rifts) in the later days of 2e, I never strayed from Dragon (and even if I wasn’t in a campaign I always thought of D&D as my game). The writing, the ideas, and especially the art were always a great source of inspiration and entertainment. I also liked the feeling of belonging to a community of gamers that came with the subscription.

Old-School « Ménage à Monster

http://leadpeople.blogspot.com/2010/12/ive-started-another-osr-game-recently.html I've started another OSR game recently. This time I'm playing with my oldest daughter, her dad (she's a step-child, technically), and his girlfriend. Overall this is a group put together for her benefit with the adults being there to back her up. Anyhow, the first adventure I ran them out on, I decided to go big and have fun with a serious dungeon crawl.

The dreary reviews and terrible marketing have done a convincing job of making John Carter sound like an awful movie. Maybe by going in with such low expectations it helped, but I thoroughly enjoyed the film. It was filled with great action, spectacular effects, enough of the integrity of the original story, and had compelling enough characters to be worth the ticket price and then some. By pulling in elements from Gods of Mars and Warrior of Mars it helped tie together the episodic nature of A Princess of Mars, which was a compilation of a serial that ran in pulp magazine The All Story way back in 1912. We could quibble about what was left out and what is added, but the movie felt complete, most of the plot holes filled (no doubt astute observers will still find many), and most of the key sequences from the novel remained mostly in tact. http://originaleditionfantasy.blogspot.com/

We have also included other items of interest, gaming tools, movies, books, other popular media, and “All things Geek” TM that may inspire or be of interest to the gaming community. The key points of HAG are centered around three of our projects: We also are a fairly opinionated lot (at least in terms of games, books, movies, etc.) and occasionally take the time to generate reviews. This is particularly true of Elric the Damned and his ever-expanding body of movie reviews which can be found in the aptly named, Damned Reviews . http://highadventuregames.wordpress.com/

The 20' by 20' Room | Because roleplaying games are interesting

I heard somewhere — I forget exactly where, so I am sure this account is somewhat mangled — that once someone sold an online PDF entitled How to Start Your Own Tabletop Games Business. It was a lavishly pure-white single-page document that said, in large, friendly letters: DON’T.

As I start to type this, I walked out of the theater less than 45 minutes ago, so I'm going to jump in while it's still fresh. Let's tackle it by pinning down some typical criticisms of this sort of movie, and maybe draw parallels to some others, and see how this stacks up. In short It's great. Go see it.

Dungeons and Digressions

For a while now I've tossed around the idea of a PC class that is explicitly non-violent or that derives experience from things that aren't related to combat or treasure. I'm not wholly convinced that such a class can work in the game, but I think offering it as an option to players might be an interesting experiment and a way to coax perhaps otherwise reluctant players to join. Uncomfortable with bashing in skulls? Try the Yogi class! http://dungeonsndigressions.blogspot.com/

PART TWO: Cake Frosting’s Awesome, But It’s Better With Cake So, in the past year or so, I’ve gotten involved with three gaming campaigns – I’m a player in a D&D 4E game, and I’m also in an Exalted game … and most recently, I’ve started running a Gamma World 4E game as well. And all three, to be honest, are great. I enjoy playing in them immensely … in no small part because the combat in both games can be spectacular.
A week ago I thought I wasn't going to get anywhere near the goal, and now, awesome. Thanks to those that have already put money up on the projects, thanks to those that helped publicize the projects. It feels good to not fail!

The latest Legends and Lore article on the WotC website worried me, and I responded in the comments. I feel this needs more visibility than hidden in comments and rage, however. Luckily, I have a blog I never use for just this sort of occasion.
Kronus, another of the five primary gods of the Three Seas region, is Lord of the Underworld, and the god of Fortune, be it good or ill. Kronus typically appears as a bald, obsidian-skinned man with piercing silver eyes, wearing a silver toga, and holding a black spear in one hand. Other times, he appears as a large crow with silver eyes, or even as a pale-skinned maiden with silver hair and black eyes that, within them, may reflect a man's past and future.

Beyond the Black Gate

Because no one demanded it, here is more information about the latest adventure I’ll be running, the MARS Project, a zombiepocalypse game . I wrote about it last week (and tweaked the text a little bit, nothing major but you can click on the link to read it!) and after that we sat down to create characters and play our first session. Alas we never got to it. Since we are learning a new system we took out time making characters, I answered questions and gave them a rundown of the system and the setting. The players also shared their character concepts.
