Synergy-COPD

TwitterFacebook

The Synergy project's objective is to create a comprehensive computer model for the chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which is the fourth leading cause of death, killing more than 3 million people every year. This model will help to develop a better simulation tool for researchers and a decision-support tool for doctors. technopapa Feb 24

Project Objectives Synergy will develop a simulation environment and a decision-support system aiming at enabling deployment of systems medicine. The three core elements are a knowledge base (KB), an inference engine (IE), and a graphical visualisation environment (GVE).

OpenClinical: knowledge management technologies for healthcare

The recent growth in the scientific understanding of diseases and their management has been unprecedented, but has not been matched by an equivalent ability to apply that knowledge in practice. It is now humanly impossible for unaided healthcare professionals to deliver patient care with the efficacy, consistency and safety that the full range of current knowledge could support. OpenClinical is an international organisation that has been created to promote awareness and use of decision support, clinical workflow and other advanced knowledge management technologies for patient care and clinical research. http://www.openclinical.org/
Data visualization is a medium for understanding information that had previously been the domain of scientists and researchers.

Data visualisation: Hans Rosling's greatest hits | The Economist

THIS week's edition of The Economist includes Technology Quarterly , which in turn contains a profile of Hans Rosling . He explains how the innovative use of infographics in public health (the topic of many of his presentations) dates back to Florence Nightingale. She developed a new type of pie chart to show that more soldiers were dying from preventable illnesses than from their wounds during the Crimean war. http://www.economist.com/node/21013330

“THE biggest myth is that if we save all the poor kids, we will destroy the planet,” says Hans Rosling, a doctor and professor of international health at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden. http://www.economist.com/node/17663585?story_id=17663585
