Global Supply Chain Game

The Global Supply Chain Games project aims at developing a flexible environment, based on the Java programming language and the DSOL simulation environment, to create teaching games for Supply Chain Management. The project is a result of a joint project of Delft University of Technology, Faculty of Technology, Policy and Management, Systems Engineering Section, and the University of Maryland, R.H. Smith School of Business, Supply Chain Management Center. Main researcher on the project was Stijn-Pieter van Houten, whose Ph.D. thesis can be found at this site. The games provided via this site are developed to provide a realistic setting in which students and managers can experience fundamental concepts and issues in supply chain management. Several games are available to play on this site. 317. MIT Forum for Supply Chain Innovation. The Beer Game The Forum seeks to ensure that the principles of supply chain management are easy to understand and applicable to everyday business issues.

MIT Forum for Supply Chain Innovation

To this end, MIT produced the widely used Beer Game in 1960. Developed initially as a teaching tool, the game has been used all over the world, and at all levels in government, industry and education. Its success is testament to the use of basic yet important principles that it teaches and their value. To a certain extent, they are universal ideas and as such can be used in some form in all areas of business. The game tests human reactions to certain events or business issues and what our strategy in solving them is.

The Procurement Game The MIT Procurement Game provides a platform to experiment with procurement auctions. The game allows instructors teaching Operations Management or Supply Chain Management courses to demonstrate the importance of portfolio contracts as well as the impact of a multi–attribute competition among suppliers. The RSS-POD Supply Chain Management Game: An Exercise for Improving the Inventory Management and Distribution of Medical Countermeasures. This paper introduces and explains the RSS-POD Supply Chain Management Game, a Microsoft Excel-based simulation game designed to provide practice in managing inventory of medical countermeasures during large-scale public health emergency.

Players perform the role of inventory manager at a receipt, storing, and staging (RSS) facility and must allocate inventory among multiple points of dispensing (PODs). The simulation is part of a larger set of tools developed by the RAND Corporation that states and localities can use to assess and improve their readiness to work with the Strategic National Stockpile (SNS). Since 2006, RAND has been working with the Center for Disease Control and Prevention's Division of the Strategic National Stockpile (CDC DSNS) to develop assessments of jurisdictions' SNSrelated capabilities.
