http://candychang.com/before-i-die-in-nola/ What is important to you 2011-ongoing It’s easy to get caught up in the day-to-day and forget what really matters to you. After I lost someone I loved very much, I thought about death a lot. This helped clarify my life, the people I want to be with, and the things I want to do, but I struggled to maintain perspective.

Wicked Samurai Skateboarders (12 total)

http://www.mymodernmet.com/profiles/blogs/wicked-samurai-skateboarders Inspired by a recent trip to Kyoto, Japan, San Francisco based painter Ferris Plock decided to cleverly mashup samurais and skateboarders in his new series, Rest for the Wicked . This new collection embodies the artist's trademark character-based works along with a Ukiyo-e inspired sensibility. Ukiyo-e, or Japanese woodblock prints, is one of the most universally known of all Japanese arts. Produced between the 17th and the 20th centuries, ukiyo-e translates to "floating world" in English and often featured images of a world of transient pleasures and freedom, like in theatre, pleasure quarters and travel. Fock used a variety of media such as acrylic, gouache, gold leaf, and spray paint on wood panel to create his art. You can listen to him describe this new set, here , or see the paintings now till September 4, 2010 in San Francisco at The Shooting Gallery.

Good call @Miles. Thanks for all of the help with this team guys. Let's keep it going and growing by st_hawk May 22

Our youngest artist, the already prolific Portuguese-born Alexandre "Vhils" Farto's range spans from collage to portraiture. Of late he's taken to creating works purely from in situ materials, taking vandalism as art to its logico ad absurdum conclusion. Advertising hoardings are torn to make fresh images, and plaster drilled away at until the remaining relief forms the work. He is, at any given time, experimenting with a cocktail of Quink ink and household bleach. But this is a long way from brutalism. Vhils' art is poetic, complex, and ambitious, often focusing on the needs we have abandoned in favour of our wants, and the realisation that trading pleasure back in for happiness will be a less than straightforward exchange. http://www.theoutsiders.net/artist/vhils

Pattaya Graffiti: The Walls

http://blog.benhodson.com/2010/03/pattaya-graffiti.html Pattaya Graffiti on Flickr: This is my little sideline project: I'm currently running around Pattaya to document all the Graffiti found here. It seems to be the trend, to use Graffiti, in some respects, as a form of unofficial advertising for local tattoo shops etc. These works however, are not as prolific or wide spread as one might find in western cities; predominantly found around the Sukhumvit Rd and Pattaya Klang area of the city (in a building I refer to as the Bat Cave).

Reflections on the New Paradigm web-blog contains a variety of written works, essays and articles developed by Benjamin David Hodson (SJC) while living and working in Asia. 'Reflections' is primarily a philosophical blog-spot, one that skirts the depths of psychology and socio-economics. http://www.flickr.com/people/drchristophers/

Sten and Lex's "Poster Stencils"

STEN LEX stencil poster from STEN on Vimeo . Sara and I have been following the work of Sten and Lex in Italy for many years. We’ absolutel love their latest body of work, created for their current solo show at the CO2 GALLERY in Rome. They call this recent series “Poster Stencils” because, in essence, they are both stencils and posters at the same time.

French artist Mademoiselle Maurice creates stunning geometric figures on urban surfaces in Paris. For her recent project Rainbow , she used hundreds of colorful folded origami figures. Each of simple geometric shapes represents ideas such as harmony, spirituality and balance. Rainbow is a temporary installation. All images © Mademoiselle Maurice ( via )
