Wage Dynamics Network (WDN) The Wage Dynamics Network (WDN) is a research network consisting of economists from the European Central Bank (ECB) and the National Central Banks (NCBs) of the EU Member States, which together make up the European System of Central Banks (ESCB). The WDN initially operated from 2006 to 2009 and resumed its activities, in part, in 2013. At present, 25 NCBs participate in the WDN, which is chaired by Juan F. Jimeno (Banco de España), with Ana Lamo (Directorate General Research – ECB) acting as secretary The network is expected to be in operation until the end of 2016.

During its first phase, in 2006-09, the WDN was chaired by Frank Smets (ECB), again with Ana Lamo (ECB) as secretary. The WDN’s current research focus is to assess labour market adjustments in the period 2010-13 and how firms have reacted to the labour market reforms that have taken place in these years in EU Member States. Over the years, CompNet has collected a number of indicators in two different databases in order to provide with a robust background to enhance the analysis of competitiveness.

In the following sections, you will find more information regarding the CompNet databases, their methodological documentation as well as on instructions for accessing them. 1. The CompNet firm-level-based database CompNet has created a firm-level-based database including a number of European countries. The database is unique in terms of its coverage and cross-dimensional analysis potential as it links, for example, trade or the financial status of firms with their productivity.

What can the CompNet data do for my research? CompNet allows to analyse virtually every aspect of European firms. What does the data look like? After computing a host of indicators within each country, we gather moments of the distributions for these variables. How else can the network aide my research? Statistics from ECB. Eurostat Home. Council of European Social Science Data Archives. European Quality of Life Surveys.
