Spotify Previews is a new section that showcases a few of the fun ideas and projects that our developers have been working on - mostly in their spare time, during hack days or in the middle of the night when they can't sleep. Some of these are pet projects, some are prototypes but they're all designed to make Spotify even more enjoyable. The projects here are unsupported by Spotify so they may not work as planned or be removed at any time, but if you like what we're doing let us know and if they prove popular enough they may well become regular Spotify features. https://www.spotify.com/us/download/previews/

HANDS-ON: Spotify's New App Platform

http://mashable.com/2011/11/30/spotify-apps-hands-on/ Spotify just announced its new app platform . Partnering with the likes of Rolling Stone , Pitchfork , Billboard , Last.fm and The Guardian , the online music service aims to allow users to get more from their tunes. As Mashable reader Cristian Parrino pointed out in the comments, the fact that an app has launched its own app platform is an intriguing move. In short, Spotify is looking to expand its ecosystem — by allowing others to build on top of its interface. We downloaded the preview version of Spotify and fired up some of the apps. The Spotify Platform is clearly in the early stages, but the potential of this sort of platform is immense.
http://www.businessinsider.com/spotify-is-getting-about-10-of-its-new-trial-members-to-pay-2011-11 Matt Rosoff Business Insider Spotify revealed today that it now has 2.5 million paying subscribers . That's up from 2 million in mid-September. In other words, it's added about 500,000 subscribers since the Facebook F8 conference, where it started letting users share songs for free through the social network. Earlier this month, Facebook reported that Spotify had added about 4 million free users since F8. Assuming those growth rates stayed constant for the last couple of weeks, it's probably closer to 5 million now.

Sonos Update Adds Support For Android Tablets And New Spotify Features

Sonos announced today that it's releasing an update for its music systems that includes compatibility with a variety of new Android-based tablets, including the Kindle Fire . The Sonos Controller app now works on Samsung Galaxy Tabs, HTC Flyer, Sony Tablet S, Kindle Fire, and most other Honeycomb tablets. The update also includes better Spotify integration that pulls in tracks from your inbox plus Spotify's new releases and top tracks lists. Those new Spotify features likely have something to do with what Spotify plans to announce at its big press event in NYC later today.
Spotify is getting its systems in order to support a planned 100 million users in the future, job openings suggest. But, as it prepares to announce a “ new direction ” on Wednesday, how has the music service fared so far? I researched disclosures since Spotify’s 2008 inception to present this four-year chart illustrating its growth to date… One can clearly see how Spotify caught on like wildfire in 2009, prompting the company to introduce limitations like a UK invite-only system just to manage the server load. http://paidcontent.org/2011/11/29/419-chart-spotifys-growth-story-next-stop-100-million-users/

How 125 days with Spotify changed my music habits

Now that I work from home and don’t commute as frequently, I have been listening to more music on my main computer. Not a lot, but for at least 5-15 hours per week. For the past few months — about 125 days since Spotify launched , actually — I have also used Spotify in addition to iTunes.

http://blog.omusicawards.com/2011/10/spotify-wins/ Music, they say, makes the people come together — apparently to cast their votes for music subscription service Spotify in the Most Addictive Social Music Service category . That’s right, everyone’s favorite Swedish import (aside from Robyn, of course) has bested the rest. To celebrate their win, the Spotify team has furnished us with a victory playlist (clicky-click to get it). Check out the tracklist below and let us know in the comments: What’s your favorite celebratory jam? 1).

and Virgin Media: A Perfect Duet

We love a musical collaboration! That’s why we’re so excited to announce that Virgin Media has launched a range of new offers for broadband and mobile, which include a Spotify Premium subscription. The new bundles will allow customers to enjoy our catalogue of millions of tracks on their computers, their mobile devices or through the exclusive Spotify app on Virgin Media’s brilliant TiVo powered digital TV service. New or re-contracting customers choosing Virgin Media’s fibre optic broadband service will be able to enjoy Spotify Premium at no additional cost for six months as part of their bundle. For Virgin Media broadband customers taking a new pay monthly Virgin Mobile contract, Virgin Media will include a three-month Spotify Premium subscription as part of their service. Customers new to Spotify, as well as those already with Spotify accounts, will be able to redeem the offers of a three- or six-month extension to their current subscription for no extra cost.

By Rob Waugh UPDATED: 13:51 GMT, 5 September 2011 Facebook's 750 million users will soon be able to listen to music through the site - sharing songs in the same way that users currently share videos, television programmes, Hollywood films and news links. It's a move that could put Facebook in direct competition with Apple's iTunes service - and looks certain to cement the site's position ahead of Google as the UK's most popular web destination. Facebook's new music service will allow users to access millions of songs instantly via any PC News of the new feature is expected to be unveiled at this month's 'f8' conference on September 22 in San Francisco, an annual event held by Facebook to show off new 'apps' and technologies.
